Lol, prepare for a new batch of GPUs that you won't be able to buy, because they're either unavailable and/or ludicrously overpriced, but even if you could get one, you still couldn't run it because the TDPs are insane and that 1000w power supply you bought to have some headroom won't cut it anymore.

Fucking hell, I normally go high on PSUs so I have room for future upgrades but I'd never considered going above 1000w

They have literally gone mad with power.

nVidia, you are not the Emperor. You do not have unlimited power. Nor, more importantly, do we.

EDIT: Also, assuming I want some headroom, the cheapest PSU I can buy that I would feel comfortable running one of these fuckers on would be $500 for a 1200watt. And even then, I'd feel better spending an extra fifty bucks and getting CoolerMaster's 2000watt unit.

Are you lunatics trying to prove people right about PC gaming being expensive?

EVGA might be doing a restock. Picked up a 3070 ti XC directly from their website without being in a queue or anything for ~$750 USD

I haven't been following this since i gave up on getting a card, so I don't know if it's news that Ebuyer seem to have 3070TI cards in stock for ~£800.

Intel Arc gpus delayed for the international market. If you were interested, I guess you shouldn't bother too much, cuz it seems Intel be fucking up again.

For reasons surely totally decoupled from current internet currency related events, GPU prices seem to be steadily declining. Right now I'm seeing some 3060's on sale for 500 CAD, which is still not amazing, but its reduced by a little more than 100 CAD since the last time I looked, and this sale is not an outlier by any stretch. The stock even seems fine.

For me I'm seeing as low as $599 and as high as $750 in Ausbucks, and that still feels too high for the 3060. Even allowing for the slightly weaker buying power the Aus Dollar, I don't think this baseline fucker should cost more than $600 in its best trim.

The whole thing has been insane. I used to have to wait about 6 months for new consoles to be readily available. We're headed into 2 years since Gen 9 launched and people are still boasting they were able to grab one. Sometimes from scalpers.

The 1060 cost about $225 US. The 3060 at Newegg is around twice that. It is still nuts.

It definitely is too much, I'm just pleased to see the prices finally reduce. Like, nobody is buying these things where I live - the 3050 in particular just seems to collect dust, but they're all just staying in stock to one degree or another and just sitting there. I'm not sure where the price will finally level out, inflation in Canada has been brutal due to Covid so I'm not sure if it'll ever get down to 300 dollars where I'm at, but if it got this much better is can still improve further.

This is $700 for a card that is worth more like $550-650. Getting doable.

EDIT:

On the other hand, this is a $750-850 card they still want $1,800 for. Still a lotta crazy goings on out there.

EDIT: now on Newegg : with $200 off, $1K for this card. Getting there...

Things are finally getting better. I've seen Founders Edition 3070s and 3070 TIs on sale for MSRP multiple times, and the Amazon Prime Day deals finally put a 3080 within my price range, so I snagged one.

It was £100 over MSRP, but considering aftermarket cards like mine tend to be over MSRP anyway, I would say it was within the range of a fairly normal price.

And I managed to get it for £65 per month, for 12 months, 0% finance, so its not like I've blown £750 all at once, which is nice.

Sure, it means I will still be paying for it, well into the release of the 40 series, but Im assuming that availability for those is going to be non-existant for a while, so Im not too fussed.

Actually I was listening to WAN Show yesterday, apparently nVidia over ordered the 5nm silicone so provided the 40 series is on that same platform they might be over abundant. And that assumes that the performance improvement over the 30 series means they’re worth getting if you already have one. I mean for me it’ll be great since I’m still on a 10 series.

I do my builds about 6 years apart. Things are getting good again.

I've got about 18 months to my next build and I hope this sort of thing keeps up. From Microcenter:

Well the old tax return came in yesterday so I decided to hit the shops. I managed to score an RTX 3080 in ROG STRIX 12GB trim for $1500. I wish I could have gotten their special Evangelion edition but a fancy paintjob and custom backplate and RGB display couldn't justify an extra $500. Oh, and PSU prices came down a bit so I nabbed a 1200Watt Platinum Corsair unit for power. All I got to do now is play the waiting game.
