Our work was closed today, but it was only supposed to be a half day anyways. Still was nice to stay in. Also one of our freeways was shut down for an hour due to a jackknifed semi. Not a bad time to be lazy and glad errands are done for a while.

I went outside to put more seed in the bird feeder. Snow got on my thumb in the process, which then immediately froze to my thumb as I went to open my door.

...sorry birds, that might be all the food you're gonna get for a few days cause that hurt!

Why didn't you wear gloves?

I was in and out in twenty seconds! And it's a pain in the butt to open the feeders and then pour seed into said feeders with gloves on. I need to buy like...a thin scoop or something.

Get some thin thermal gloves your willing to get dirty. The type of thermal gloves where it's easy to grasp smaller items.

I should get some better gloves for this kind of thing. I have two "primary" pairs of gloves; the big bulky mofos that are for being outside with (great to keep my hands warm but not great at doing little stuff like say change a bird feeder) and my leather driving gloves (great to keep my hands warm enough in a warm car on a cold steering wheel but not great at keeping my hands warm outside in the elements).

I have also decided to just dump seed on the ground when necessary! So the birds can still eat :D

I'm tired of the people on Twitter saying they don't feel bad for Texans freezing because they re-elected Abbott.

"What? You weren't able to vote out your politicians because said politicians are making it ridiculously hard to vote? You just didn't vote hard enough!".

"No, we won't do anything about voter suppression!"

My boss let me go early since I got to work an hour early. I left at 4:30 pm and got home around 5:50 pm. Driving was mostly fine, but some places were salted, and some weren't. I don't what it is with these pick-up truck/SUV drivers, but they need to stop driving up on people. I don't fucking care that you have 4x4! You can still lose control and crash into something or someone! I had to put on my hazard lights twice. Glad to be home; having Chinese food right now.

EDIT: I get Monday off too, because Christmas is on a Sunday.

Roads are generally clear here. Some power loss but not a ton considering(4,500 people last I heard, out of 652,000)

Sorry, misread that. 4,500 households, so a little bit more then 4,500 people.

People were doing freaking 20 on the roads when they are literally better this Friday than last Friday. I was doing 50 when I got free.

These constant updates complaining about how people drive the speeds they feel safe and comfortable at, while you speed... They don't make you as superior as you think they do.
It is on Brand for him though.

It doesn't make it better, but at least it's consistent.

Duke Energy intentionally cut power in 11 degree weather.

Duke Energy looked at ERCOT and said, ā€œHold my beerā€.

Also the behaviours of others in their claims can be adequately explained by a nervousness people often get when they realise they're being intensely stared at by a total stranger. šŸ˜‰

I mean, I kinda get it as a professional driver: people going 35mph on the 80mph interstate during inclement weather is usually actively dangerous for me personally, especially when they aren't using their hazard flashers to let people know where they are and hopefully give me an extra heads up. Course, I'll typically drop down to 65-75 in those conditions. I don't think it's possible to have a long enough stretch of 45mph road to get actively annoyed at people going slower where I'm at

On the other hand, to paraphrase different saying: if one person is going dangerously slow, that's a them problem; if everybody's going significantly slower, that's a me problem.

If we're complaining about drivers, I want to take people's fog lights away until they learn to use them properly and I want the inventor of high intensity headlights taken to The Hague.

The speed limit on that road is 55, but I was speeding doing 50? The roads were fine, you could see the pavement of the road. And the places where it was iffy were very noticeable unlike last Friday when you really couldn't see the iffy spots (random ice) so you had to be a lot more careful (I was topping out at 40). Maybe you should phone Geico that I shouldn't be in their lowest risk tier then if you think my driving is poor. Never caused a single accident in my life but I'm the one driving dangerous? When I was a kid, we had a go-kart place that let us kart in the rain, which is a ton of sliding and a ton of fun, so a bit of sliding in snow is pretty much nothing for me.

I actually have a video of me driving in the snow from last year because a guy at work thought I was bullshitting that you can do the normal 5 over that day, we got out early because of the snow storm that was just starting. As you can see the pavement on the road was very visible and pretty clear, no reason to go 20. Last night was a tad worse but about the same conditions outside of the occasional and very noticeable problem spots.

@~9:30 me and the white SUV in front finally get to some open space and proceed to pass everyone. The people that drive so slow are always in the left lane too...

A good driver accepts that the roads are filled with drivers of various skill, experience and confidence.
A good driver accepts that those drivers staying within their comfort range during unusual conditions is safer for everyone.
A good driver understands and accepts that whether you've been in an accident on public roads is more about luck than skill, as most accidents happen in traffic.
A good driver accepts that while they may be confident in their skills, everyone around them is largely unpredictable and may be panicked by something you consider ordinary.

And most importantly, a good driver knows that mechanical skills learnt on a track or course have no bearing to real world traffic conditions.

Thanks for responding exactly as we all expected tho!
