Watched Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter and Friday the 13th: a New Beginning.
Had slightly raised hopes for The Final Chapter, seeing as Crispin Glover and Corey Feldman were in it... some misplaced trust fueled by 80's nostalgia, I guess. Anyway, it's not great, but Crispin Glover does a very Crispin Glover dance in it and I guess that counts for something.
A New Beginning actually was semi decent. Not good, but not too terrible. It's actually been the most engaging movie in this franchise so far, largely due to there being some actual drama and interplay between the characters. It wasn't just 'teens go in house, Jason kills them', there was a sense of these characters being characters and having relationships and interactions with one another. There's a scene where three of the teens display worry for what happened to their missing friends (that are already killed off), and we get a nice zoom-in on them as they show concern. Pretty basic shit in any other movie, but for a Friday movie it's like seeing a chimp understand physics.
Also, this movie fucking loves boobs... a lot. And I mean, I get it, boobs are swell, but Jesus Christ, was the director 14 years old? Oh, and the guy who gives Indiana Jones his hat in The Last Crusade is in this too, and I never realized how stupendously dreamy he is. One of the cops from Speed is in this as well, funny enough.
