I still recall the boat chase scene making no logical sense (how Bond gets away). I remember slowing it down and everything and just going "how?"

Happy Death Day 2U - 6/10

It's about as entertaining as the first movie but it's just not as good of a movie overall. The movie brings back all the characters from the first movie and this sequel starts when the last movie ends. The movie starts off with a secondary character, Ryan, getting stuck in a time loop but that quickly gets basically put on hold and the main character from the 1st movie gets stuck in another loop herself. She not only gets stuck in a loop but is now in a slightly different dimension (multiverse...). I thought this was going to be a bit of a side-quest and we'd go back to Ryan and his loop but it's all about the chick from the 1st movie again. The movie does have a lot more fun with the premise and she's now purposefully killing herself to reset to loop in fun ways. However, we already had her story and arc from the 1st movie and they change it up a bit here but I'd rather have had the sequel focus on another character this time and kept her to side character status.

Hannah and Her Sisters

I like movies that begin with household parties. Weddings, Christmas, whatever. This starts and ends on Thanksgiving I think two years apart. It's the kind of not quite comedy, not quite drama that has characters buzzing around uncomfortably with conflicted feelings only to have them end more or less where they started. It's sad that they don't see the irony but funny that they're at peace with it. Tellingly, you have one character come to an epiphany by embracing this very state of mind, and they end up with the other character that struggled the most with their own identity. Power to them. It's got great scenes of fine writing and powerhouse acting but the whole movie carries itself in a way that's cozy and comforting.

The Bond movie that is a boring Jason Bourne clone, and is somehow worse than the fourth Bourne movie (the one with Hawkeye in it). I've only seen this movie twice in my life and never again.

See, I kind of like this movie. I agree with most of the criticisms of it, but there's some stuff in it I really like. I think the opening car chase is a banger, I like the decision to make Bond and Camille kindred souls rather than have her be another Bond girl, I like the scenes with Mathis and Bond more or less reconnecting despite the note they left on last time, I really like the scene at the Opera and I might be one of the six people on earth who likes "Another Way to Die".

I mean, it is kind of damning that the game based on this movie was better though.

I liked the opening car chase somewhat, but I felt like it had the opposite problem of some Bond openings where they begin too slow, in that it's so immediately into the action that I had absolutely no context for what was going on until after the action was done. I quite liked Camilla as the Bond girl for that reason. I liked that scene with Mathis, but it was soured for me by what ultimately happens, and the mood whiplash of that scene. Finally, the opera scene is the highlight of the movie by far. "I think you should take this meeting elsewhere." takes pictures of everyone who stands up

Technically, I saw this movie two months ago, but it's been living in my head rent free, so I decided to do a full review to try to get it out.

In The Heart Of The Sea: Good / Great

Herman Melville (the author) pleads with Thomas Nickerson, the last remaining survivor of the sinking of the whaling ship Essex, to tell his tale of the event, one he has painfully kept to himself for decades. Nickerson finally concedes, and recounts the day that a new, entitled captain, his veteran first mate (the two at odds from the get-go,) and the crew of the Essex were attacked by a giant sperm whale, and left the surviving crew stranded at sea in whaleboats for months. Eventually, "things" had to be done to stay alive in the hope of rescue.

Good movie. Apparently it was a 2015 flop, but I really enjoyed it. It has a slow build, and the whale isn't featured as much as I'd expected for the sheer potential spectacle, but I think it was a wise choice given it's based on true events, and not merely a monster film where 20 guys on dinghies could actually withstand constant attacks from a creature that could capsize and kill them all at any moment were its malicious intentions deliberate. The biggest lesson for me is that this story was the inspiration for Melville's Moby Dick; I had no idea it had roots in reality.

Reservoir Dogs: Still Good / Great

A handful of would-be robbers flee from a botched heist with the intent to reconvene in a designated place to try and figure out what went wrong, and more likely and importantly, which of them is a cop who sold them out.

I've seen it; you've seen it; everyone's seen it... except my girlfriend. Anyway, it's a Tarantino joint; it's 90% what's being said that comprises the meat of the film, and my girlfriend loves to talk during a movie and/or get distracted on her phone if a film isn't engaging her in a way she expects. She didn't like it; said she didn't understand what was going on, and when I tried to explain it was because she talked through half of it and was Googling the actors she recognized to see what other movies she's seen them in during the other half, she got mad at ME, lol. Anyway, still holds up, imho. Not my favorite Tarantino outing, but I appreciate how much intrigue, suspense, and drama he was able to pack basically into a single room for +90 minutes.

The trivia on IMDb for this movie is pretty interesting too. Long but worth a read.

Overall a fun enough movie, with a catchy song or two ( especially the villain song ) and quite a few fun references to other Disney movies.

So far you and DT are the only ones I trust about reviewing this movie. Everybody else is treating the film is like the spawn of Satan, or "Disney's worst movie ever made of all time!" (When it's not!).

I'd say the sentiment is less about the movie itself and more about what this implies about Disney. This was supposed to be Disney's answer to Spider-Verse, Arcane, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, and TMNT: Mutant Mayhem. But in stead of commiting to a new different artstyle, they still are only willing to dip their toe in, resulting in a rather half baked look.

I already knew the movie was originally going to be 2D and then they backed out on that. Like they did with Tangled. Yet it shouldn't cause this much crying from the rage baiters, the click baiters, and the part of the "animation commentary community" (who act like they know everything, and they don't.). I never once saw Wish to be the equivalent of any of those movies. I don't know what height Disney was doing, but I never once bought into it. For better or worse, people of all kinds across the internet and real life, either bought into it or gaslighted themselves into believing will be the best thing ever, just hoping for something good, or to exceed their "expectations". What we got at the end of the day it's just an average movie or Disney played it safe and did their usual virtue signaling. Now I will say people are starting to finally realize how risk-averse Disney is, but still shouldn't cause all this much chaos. You got all these people act like they lost their lives or something. It's their own fault for being that invested in the first place, and that more than half of these commentary jackasses don't actually give a crap. They're feeding into their usual echo chambers.

Tarantino has said that some of his movies are his take on reality. The others are the sort of movies those in his reality might watch themselves. I'd put this one in the "reality" world and at the top of that portion of his films.

Cronenberg Jr. makes another fine sci-fi [body] horror movie. A failed writer and his sugar momma wife are vacationing in a fictional, vaguely Balkanic island resort, meet a swinger couple (the female half of which is played by Mia "Never a Dull Moment" Goth) and if you know nothing else about the movie do yourself a favor and watch it unspoiled. A series of horrible things happen, followed by a series of surreal discoveries, followed by a series of even more horrible things and so on. The movie ostensibly becomes a metaphor for self-destructive hedonism but never sacrifices its story for the sake of allegory (ie. mother!). It's kinda cold and kinda porny and kinda gross (just like pa) so it's hard to recommend. But I did think the ending was uplifting in the absolutely most backhanded way possible.

I went to see the movie without knowing anything about it, aside from a small preview that I saw when I saw Elemental over the summer.

Now here I am looking up some of the movie's songs on YouTube to listen to them again and looking around the comments and recommended video section it feels a bit like that Troy Pizza meme from Community.

Fair enough, I suppose.

Compared to Spider-Verse and TMNT's visual style, Wish' style comes off as a bit bland, but I'd have to ask, what were people really expecting?

The only reason I knew about the movie was because my local theater had the poster up back in late 2022. Other than some screenshots, I have not seen a single clip of this movie.

I know, right? It's not like Disney pulled anything from the under the rug beneath them. I swear people today (don't matter if they're young, old, our age, etc.) can handle something that is average, or need to find constant validations to hate something, because they foolishly believed the movie failed to deliver. You have your usual anti-woke crowd of course, but nearly everyone else is going nuts about how "Disney/Pixar is dead!" and they "can't recover from this"! Cut the shit you self-absorb, know-nothing, fuck heads. If you hate Disney or whatever they're doing now, then stop watching them. I have not watched any Disney movie related since Wakanda Forever. You don't me crying like a constant biatch about it. The animated TV shows on Disney+ are killing it and doing fine, so it shows these people don't look nor pay attention, and willfully make themselves oblivious about it.
