When you get to work, I'd like you to go in front of your coworkers/boss, tell them you love them from the bottom of your heart, and then make that Elon's "not a Nazi salute" to them

(If you're too shy to do that in front of everyone, just do it in the lunchroom or wherever others gather to no one when people are around)
What if his boss returns the salute tho?

I think it would be infinitely more informative for you to give it a try. Nobody will think you're a Nazi.

You're the one claiming he's not giving a Sieg Heil. If he's not giving a Sieg Heil like you said, give everyone a good old Elon Wave IRL. Since he's not doing a Sieg Heil, you won't be either and everyone will recognize that.

Just wow, you guys know Elon is a troll, right?

Don't feed the troll...
That's the bleeding mentality that got us here.
"Don't feed the troll", "They're just trying to get a rise out of you", "If you ignore them they'll go away", and "It's just a prank" are the literal lies and stories we were told that made us ignore fascist pricks when we should, in fact, have been fighting back.

Hell, Elon might even be a troll, but he is a troll with the ear of the president and a troll who'll be heard by tens of millions, thus normalizing his bullshit.

He's not a fascist, he did it because he knew the reaction he would get. Let me know when actions/policies are proposed that would actually be fascist.

"Out of context!" "He was just making a joke!" -Republicans, probably
If by "Republicans" you meant the ADL, sure.

"It's the Roman salute guys." -Actual Twitter arguments
It is, what do you think the Nazis were adopting the aesthetic from? Unfortunately anything touched by the Nazis is tainted as being "theirs", which is sad because if there was one thing the Nazis were fantastic at it was aesthetics.

What I think the Nazis were adopting their salute's aesthetic from? From neoclassical paintings depicting Roman scenes, or rather, what those 18th/19th century painters believed a Roman scene would look like, with a healthy helping of artistic liberty. Same for Mussolini.

I don't know any actual Roman artworks that show a salute gesture that closely resembles that modern Roman salute. Closest is probably statues in the adlocutio pose, but that's not a salute.

Keep in mind that despite how much fascists like to venerate the past, they can rarely be arsed to do their homework.

You're asking for an experiment that doesn't demonstrate anything. I make a weird jerky gesture at people who trust me, they aren't going to b worried or upset even in the unlikely scenario they think it's similar to Hitler. And just the opposite, you are so sure that is what he was doing because you have absolute faith in his ill intentions regardless of what he does. If you had a scenario where people who trust you saw you do that gesture, I'm certain they wouldn't give it a second thought, which would be the most successful demonstration available to us.

My friends and family are used to me doing a Sieg Heil! is not the defense you think it is but I suppose that does explain a lot...

Not Roman, but wasn't there a Greek depiction from the second century or so that was pretty close? Still not doing their homework well, but I never said they were good at history, just aesthetics. They chose that one in particular because of the association with the Romans, the accuracy of that association is largely immaterial.

Was he some sort of alt right icon (freely selling drug?) or did he just bribe Trump?
The Libertarian Party had a lot of people who wanted that guy pardoned. Trump went to their convention to ask for their support, and that pardon was one of the things they said he could do for them. So he said he would, and then he did.

Humm didn't see that coming...

Ross Ulbricht? He founded and ran the Silk Road, a TOR hidden service marketplace where about 2/3 of the products were illegal drugs and another 25% or so were things like hitmen, stolen credit cards and child pornography. All transactions in bitcoin. You had to pay him a fee (originally he auctioned off account slots, later he switched to a flat fee) to have an account on it to buy or sell (but not to merely browse listings) and he got a cut of sales as well. Silk Road also functioned as an escrow service for transactions on it. He also allegedly hired a hitman, but couldn't prove that charge.

I find it "amusing" the degree to which they're happy about pardoning a guy who made a lot of money facilitating selling child porn given they usually cloak being anti-trans in terms of protecting children from grooming.

If it really is a gift to Libertarians, it makes sense. Behind all that "freedom, small state, no red tape" rhetoric were always quite a number of people who mostly had issues with particular restrictions like e.g. age of consent. It is not a majority but it is enough that Libertarian projects and communities get into related scandals or internal quarrels about it time and time again.
