Guys I need some help. I wanna do another full series of playthroughs.

I've done the Souls game, I've done the Yakuza's, and I've done all the Final Fantasy (mainlines).

So now what series? Nominate suggestions for me, but the rule is that all the games in your recommendation must be playing on modern hardware, either via Steam, or on xbox/ps5/switch.

Here's some ideas:

1- Zelda
This is the series I respect and admire most even though I don't like any of them past the SNES days. But they are so important and interesting and multi-generation trend-setting. I am considering them all playable because of Nintendo's online services that allow you to play them all on Switch- at least that's how I think it works?

2- God of War
Guaranteed to get you lots of posts in reply due to the strong feelings about the transition to modern Dad of Boy style, but they're all also awesome games and I'm guessing all playable with the various bundles and reissues

3- Civilization, Age of Empre....?
Could be interesting to trace the progress of a beloved strategy game series.

Devil May Cry retrospective, if you wish. You can skip DMC2.

Platinum's Catalogue in release order:

  1. MadWorld - I hope you have a Wii or Wii U
  2. Bayonetta
  3. Vanquish
  4. Anarchy Reigns
  5. Bayonetta 2
  6. Wonderful 101
  7. Astral Chain
  8. Bayonetta 3 - You've already played that one though.
The Ninja Gaiden Remaster Trilogy. Though I recommend getting Ninja Gaiden II Black, so you can play that game with the actual gore. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is still a good game, but suffers from censoring the gore. If you have your Series X or a X360, either download vanilla Ninja Gaiden II (2008) from the XBOX digital store, or find a used physical copy of the original 360 game.

With the release of the original Resident Evil trilogy on GOG lately, there's a lot of them that are readily available. If a source isn't marked you can buy it on Steam and pretty much anywhere else.

-1996: Resident Evil (GOG or PSN Store)
-1998: RE2 (ibid)
-1999: RE3: Nemesis (ibid)
-2000: RE: Code Veronica (the X version was released for PS3 and Xbox 360, and should be backwards compatible with 8th/9th-gen systems through their digital storefronts. Unfortunately it's not on PC that I'm aware of)
-2002: Resident Evil remake
-2002: RE0
-2005: RE4
-2009: RE5 (I recommend a co-op partner for this one)
-2012: RE Revelations
-2012: RE6 (I also recommend a co-op partner for this one)
-2015: Revelations 2
-2017: RE7: Biohazard
-2019: RE2 remake
-2020: RE3 remake
-2021: RE Village
-2023: RE4 remake

I'm aware that 16 games is a lot, but individually they're shorter than the Yakuza games on average (and a lot shorter than Final Fantasy games), so it shouldn't be insurmountable as a marathon.

Admittedly I've never played that one, CV or either Revelations myself.
Which reminds me, if you're gonna play Code Veronica @CriticalGaming, make sure it's Code Veronica X. The game available on PS2 and the PSN store. I highly doubt you have a Sega Dreamcast on hand.

PS3 only for the HD PSP ports or use uuuhggghhh...PS Streaming.

I’d also probably embark on this one if I had more time.

Get cherry on every game on UFO 50, that's a big project. I think I was around 120 hours at half.

I always enjoy reading people's experience playing every Zelda game. Civilization are good games, but I think a little too open ended for a project series.

Mathew matosis has a good recap of the zelda franchise, if you never watched his stuff on youtube.

On topic, if you want JRPG there's plenty of long running franchise, suikoden, trail in the sky, persona, etc...

Zelda is off the table for me. I hate those games pretty much universally.

Persona is an idea, except 1 and 2 are impossible to find legit and i just played p3 like 4 fucking times between persona 3 portable and the remake. Ff7 I will play 4 times, p3 isn't worth that many playthroughs.

Doom series. Doom, 1, 2, TNT Evilution, Plutonia Experiment, Master Levels, No Rest For The Wicked, Sigil and Legacy of Rust, then Doom 64, Doom 3, Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal. Available on all current systems, so you got your pick.

But to really make it a project: play them all on Nightmare. Or if you really want to go all in: pistol start only

I'd recommend the Metal Gear series but depending on how thorough you want to be you might have some trouble playing them all on modern hardware. Same goes for the Silent Hill series.

Resident Evil and DMC are pretty good suggestions. Although I totally think you should play the black sheep in the series too. Just so you have the whole picture.

Kingdom Hearts would also be interesting. That series is silly and mostly decent to quite good. And it's very entertaining to see all the bullshit lore and worldbuilding Nomura and Nojima got away with without a Disney exec pulling them aside and saying "Please remember, you're making a Mickey Mouse game for children."
