The head of Homeland Security got the definition of habeus corpus COMPLETELY wrong.

"Habeas corpus is a constitutional right that the president has to be able to remove people from this country."
Imagine if the CEO of Taco Bell defined a taco as "a thin round dough pie covered with cheese, tomato sauce and toppings". Now multiply that cringe value by a thousand, and then feel terrified because this woman can disappear people from this country.

Televised Slaughter': UK Doctor on the Devastation He Is Witnessing in Gaza

Surgeon Tom Potokar in Khan Younis says he’s ‘sick and tired’ of describing the horror on the ground to international media while seeing no action from Western leaders.
https://substack.com/@mehdirhasan
“We all are sick and tired of having to recount stories of utter horror, of what is going on here, the extent of the suffering that is going on there. And all we hear are words basically… History will judge what is going on here, and it will not judge us kindly for having ignored it.”

Dr. Tom Potokar is a British plastic surgeon who has conducted burn research and prevention around the world, and has been volunteering in Gaza at a hospital that has been hit by Israeli strikes.

In the aftermath of Israel’s deadly strike on the European Hospital in Khan Younis, Dr. Potokar was forced to relocate to the Red Crescent Hospital. Then on May 19th, Israel issued a forced displacement of Gazans and people were told to leave Khan Younis and move towards al-Mawasi but, as Dr. Potokar explains to Mehdi in this interview, “people are trapped” right now and unable to find safe haven.

“We constantly have patients who come in and sometimes they have to go straight to surgery and they have no idea that their whole family has been killed,” the British surgeon tells Mehdi, via Zoom. “This is the reality.”

Be sure to watch the full interview above where Dr. Potokar shares with Mehdi the most horrific things he has seen on his operating table in Gaza, how he and other healthcare workers have been dealing with Israel’s blockade of food and medicines, and the ongoing failure of Western leaders to act.

This short interview is so important and urgent that we are removing the paywall for all Zeteo subscribers. Please do consider also supporting our journalism with your donations.
this is insane do people not feel insane seeing this all go down? it's like being surrounded by the possessed from the political class to the media class to anyone refusing to acknowledge the legitimate vast horror escalating in front of our very eyes

even if ppl don't give a shit about the lives of ppl in a different country with darker skin, this still affects civilians at home in every western country as their governments stamp down on protest and dissent, and there are very historical long term reasons behind this, it is colonialism it is capitalism it is racism and evangelical Christianity, it is authoritarianism, it is fucking state-sanctioned live-streamed genocide!

I mean, you just described the reasons why yourself. Even if it weren't for the decades' worth of consent manufacture for the Palestinian genocide and rabid support for Jewish fascism among far-right groups worldwide -- who tend to be the most antisemitic people on the planet, including Jewish fascists themselves -- Gaza and the West Bank are the proving grounds for the imperial boomerang. There's a lot of money riding on the successful genocide of the Palestinian people, whether that's weapons manufacturers or big tech that engages in heavy defense contracting.

Hell, you just called out evangelical Christianity -- and need I remind you these people support Israel for no other reason than they're an apocalyptic death cult. They literally believe the unification of "Israel" fulfills end times prophecy, and will trigger the second coming.

I miss when "The Brink" was still able to be called a satire.

With Kristi Noem its always relevant to mention that she murdered her pet dog and then got such a rush from it she went out to murder her goat too. In her own words.

This is a bad analogy. It would be like the CEO of Taco Bell defining a taco as a piece of shit. She gave an answer that was the opposite of what Habeus Corpus is, solely to hurt people she doesn't like

Edit: maybe I need to make it clear that I'm saying shit is the opposite of food, not some other meaning

Has anyone else been noting that Trump has become schizophrenic?

There seem to be two Trumps with vastly different ideals who are continually arguing with each other

Ah well, this is probably because Trump doesn't really believe in much except his own self-aggrandisement.

This therefore means that the politics and ideology behind Trumpism come from other people, and Trumpism as a movement has stitched together an alliance of people with substantially mutually opposing views. So what therefore happens is that different people get Trump's ear on different subjects and different times, and literally or figuratively Trump says whatever the last person he spoke to said. As a result, contradiction and general incoherence.

No, he's senile. And schizophrenia happens on much shorter time frames, it happens within seconds/minutes, not years/months.

I don't know how much he ever has.

Trump is a narcissist who wants wealth, power, fame, praise and adulation. He couldn't give a shit about MAGA except as a vehicle to get him wealth, power, fame, praise and adulation. Sure, he probably does also have some weird ideas about tariffs, and some romanticised view of oil and manufacturing, etc. but it's all very secondary to the self-aggrandisement that makes him tick.

So he'll listen to MAGA as long as someone MAGA butters him up the right way, makes him feel important and loved or that it's a great way to make a few million dolllars. Just at the minute he's been distracted by oil-rich Arabs gifting him hundreds of millions, I'm sure he'll be back to MAGA in due course.

Aw shit, here we go again.
Still doesn't comprehend that a trade deficit is driven by demand from within the US, then. It's the fault of foreign governments that American companies have chosen to import, is it?

He just is salty that he has lost the trade war against China. And now he wants to get a win against someone he perceives as weaker. He really needs some win to brag about how his tariffs arte working.

All Trump had to do was wait out China as they are killing their own economy. Trump Tariffs just gave them a lifeline. Now people who would normally trade with the US are trying to trade with China. He lost biggly

Eh, to be honest, the gap between tariffs seemed abnormal, now things are bad to usual with random trade wars.

He's not going to get a win at all, he's just going to pretend a win. This is a performance.

Trump's line is that he is strong and the USA is strong, and this uniquely strong combination can beat everyon. Unlike all those other presidents that were weak and let the USA be exploited. So Trump creates this imaginary tariff stick, waves it around threateningly. Then he cancels it in short order claiming it's worked and Canada / China / EU / etc. has given in to his strong leadership. The tariffs are all cancelled before they're too catastrophic, to maintain the illusion that they work for his supporters.

So too will these tariffs disappear in short order.

The 50% sure.

But i think he wants to keep the 10% for everyone and the 25% for steel and aluminium and maybe something extra for cars and for China. I am not sure he will ever fully walk back his tariffs.
