The biggest indicator for me is who he chose to shoot, which was my basis for the comment. Turns out he was left after all based on his parents and text exchanges with his trans boyfriend roommate, wherein he mentioned hating Kirk cause he was “hateful”. (Logic not required to be a sniper I guess)

You have to use common sense in these things. If someone shoots a major right wing dude and writes things about fascists on the ammo they’re likely not further right cause those people like fascism.

You're right, now that a few days have passed and we have more information. Hence why I specifically said "seems to be by all indications". At the time, that's where the evidence seemed to be pointing. Now, it's pointing the other way. I guess it's just not common sense to follow where the evidence seems to be pointing rather than drawing a conclusion prematurely and just trusting that things will swing that way. Which they did in this case.

Whatever, I'm probably not going to engage too much more. It seems like any time I say anything, I do it wrong, and I have enough shit going on without drawing more shit on myself by getting in a debate that neither side is going to give in on and will just leave me feeling like a moron.

The dude was in Iowa, that's an open carry state, meaning you can walk down the street with your rifle and nobody will bat an eye. Also apparently the gun was somewhat of a family relic that was handed down by his grandfather or something. But yeah you can walk into a wallmart in America and there's like a shotgun and rifle aisle. It's super normal especially in states that get a lot of hunting game. I noticed I was fully american after moving here when I was more surprised by the dildo section in a store than the ammunition and machete one.

I don't think I took any sides, all I said was that it's not only immoral to kill people you disagree with but also bad strategy because you turn people into martyrs and make their words that much harder to debate because you'll be seen as cruel for doing so and people will instantly stop listening to your argument cause you're someone who's being a dick to a dead guy and his grieving family.

People just are quibbling with the common sense logical deduction I employed and ignoring the meat of my point but that doesn't somehow put me in some sort of side.

I have no problem with people being unaccepting of common sense on something like this. I don't necessarily expect psycho murderers to meet our expectations of logic. The entire Reddit machine mobilizing to pound the word "groyper" into people's minds is kind of ridiculous though, some of the explanations for why they would think that were totally made up, and yet thousands (if not millions) of accounts just ran with it. Like, you don't have to just go with common sense, but you need a compelling reason to go against, and the reasons here were so weak and so fake.

I mean, when they say that though people jump to reclaim helldivers from them and explain how it opposes fascism. So you can’t really only relinquish the property to the far right only after someone quotes it in a bullet. That’s too convenient and unfair.

And as someone who has spent decades looking at anime girls, there’s an order of magnitude of difference between the geek levels of those folks and someone who plays arguably the biggest current shooter that’s not f2p. The latter person just indicates that the person is not 60 nor Amish.
