Jin Sakai falls off a cliff and nobody bats an eye. Atsu gets stabbed in the chest and everybody loses their minds.

We live in a society etc etc.

Anyway, all nonsense aside: I'm playing the game in Japanese with English subtitles, and actually knowing Japanese, I can tell that like the first game, there's quite a few differences between the two scripts. It is a little distracting, but I don't really mind it, and it means I get some interesting insights. I will note, however, that like the first game, the English script was written first and the Japanese dub is a translation.

-Atsu doesn't use the prefix 'Lord' for Saito's name in Japanese. I didn't quite catch exactly what was said by his subordinates but I'll probably get it next time he comes up.

-Atsu's personal pronoun is 'ore'. At first that made me think she was acting kinda masculine/tomboyish, but her mother also uses the same term, so maybe it's just a Hokkaido thing. I'm not really sure.

-When calming down the horse, rather than trying to tell the bandits they should be sorry, instead she apologizes for the circumstances before calling them 'idiots' (lit. 馬鹿ども 'baka-domo'). Considering Japanese is by nature meant to be a respectful language, it's easy to read a stronger term than 'idiots' into it if you want to.

-To anyone who played Nioh back in the day, now you know what that game's second boss 'Onryoki' is. The term 'onryo' is used directly in the English script; an equivalent might be 'revenant', perhaps. 'Ki' is the onyomi reading of the kanji for 'oni'.

More thoughts to come.

I think the most disappointing part before getting to this duel in the first base (whose walls are, hilariously, surrounded by high natural elevations) that keeps crashing is hacking at some horse and having nothing happen to it. Thought about Ogami Itto and how many horses he slayed in "Lone Wolf and Cub."

They more or less implied, and stated this in at least two interviews. I'm glad they did.
Yeah, but there are aspects to the open-world that make it seem like corners were cut. In Tsushima for example there are no children. Like none. Young Jin is the only child you'll see. Children are mentioned, and at one time a guy is holding a bundle with a little face peaking out implying a baby, but actual children don't exist in the open-world. This always bugged me and made the world feel lacking in its believeability. Yotei kinda fixes this - there are at least some children here and there in the open-world - but it still struggles in making the world feel like it doesn't just exist for the player.

Like how you can walk into any house or establishment and just take supplies without consequences. You can just rob people and they don't care. Because this would require an entire program to regulate the A.I. of the npc's to react to your actions, and Sucker Punch either didn't have the man power, the budget, or the inclination to put that work into it. And it sticks out like a sore thumb. Ofcourse an open-world exist to ultimately supply the player, but it's important to design the world in a way that gives it the illusion that it exists on its own with people living their own daily lives, you're simply wandering through it. And Yotei still can't really get this across, not like The Witcher 3, Red Dead Redemption, or even Horizon: Zero Dawn/Forbidden West do, giving the overall world a certain hollowness.

At least kids bother to show up in this game. Not many children showed up in Evil Within 2 (other than Lily and that one teenager who dies in the opening STEM section, yet no one complained about that). It didn't bother me in the previous games (I didn't even bother to notice until late game) and it doesn't bother me now. I don't know why it irks this much, but that's really on you.

This nothing more than a huge case of YMMV. As for the others, I really don't give a damn about any of the other open world games. They're all going for something different, even if they share some of the same DNA. Certain games do better in certain areas, and that's fine, but it doesn't make enjoy Yotei any less nor Tsushima for the matter. The same would apply, even if I liked or cared about the three you mentioned.

Once again, it's that double standard sexism, certain gamers whether consciously or unconsciously do, but don't want to admit and jumps through a 1000 hoops to never acknowledge.

Alright! I am doing the same for my playthrough too! Best of luck, and have fun my friend!

So, something just really soured me on the story. Not that the story was doing too much for me, but ugh, why would you pull this lame-ass corny shit on me game? 🤮

Ladies and Gentlemen.....we got 'em! :D
Depends on what you think I'm referring to. The game thus far was fine-to-good, with a nice peak around the Oni. And if it wasn't for that one souring moment I would've kept playing. I still might if that feeling fades after a good night's rest... though I'm sceptical; that moment was ass.

Going to Oni first, since it's on the way. I did the Soma Flute Player side quest. Getting to play with him before he expires I was not expecting. Pretty good bounty quest. I managed to beat him on the first try.

The bow should have been a temporary pickup. It only appearing when you aim bothers me, and it wouldn't have looked good on him all the time. Other characters just have them glued to their backs. Aiming sucks with controllers anyway. Could have used L2 and R2 for more depth in traversal and swordplay instead of shooting. Except when he picks one up.

Wish there was a compass so that I didn't have to rely on the dumb wind.

That's pretty much how the bows in the first game functions. You're literally crying over nothing, and just looking for excuses. I wouldn't expect anything less from somebody caught up in the grift.

I don't think you understood what I said. Yeah, you didn't. Crying "grift" all the time makes you look pathetic. Like you're in a bubble (and can't analyze), which you are.

I heard you loud and clear, and you're really crying over nothing. Grift ( which you still do fall for, regardless of this game or not) or not. All you ever do is whine about nothing or cry about something that isn't a big deal or get mad, because you didn't get every little petty thing you wanted. I'm glad you're not in charge of any game development ever. If you hate the game that so much, then you can stop playing and play something else.

If you're not too spoiled, how about you give Ninja Gaiden 4 a shot? Though it wouldn't surprise me, if you start crying about that too over nothing.

On too much better things.

I am impressed that the creator(s) of this mod actually recognized what the issue is and did not merely remove the black bars. They preserved the original aspect ratio of the cutscenes.

Edit: Wow, the transition from cutscene to gameplay is so seamless now. It makes the gameplay in turn feel more cinematic. Yeah, letterboxing cutscenes is a moronic practice!

Once again, crying over nothing and a majority of people don't care. Besides you can turn off the widescreen. Went on horseback, but is never interfered with my screen. You know you can stop playing now. Why constantly pull yourself kicking and screaming? Because, you know, you have nothing better to do otherwise.
