I'm watching a stream playthrough and Leon is Clint Eastwood now? Okay, that's fine but Grace looks like she's barely legal, and she's actually an FBI agent? They recruit out of high school?
She's a woman in a videogame; she HAS to look hot and young, duh!

Grace is annoyingly snivly and useless for an FBI agent. I can understand being green and scared of the situation but holy crap she plays like a girl who has no business being an FBI investigator because she would lose her mind discovering the milk in the fridge is empty and she already poured the cereal into the bowl.

I'm liking this game well enough. The zombies having a certain sense of who they once were is a nice detail. Feels a little inspired by Alan Wake and even Dead Rising with the Psychos. Grace is a bit odd with how she trips over her words in a very fabricated manner. The performance feels kinda stilted. Her being an FBI agent with the courage of a rabbit is something I'll just have to wait and see if it's something that'll eventually make sense. Otherwise it wouldn't be too hard to imagine new agents being of this caliber with Kash Patel running things.

I think i'm almost done with grace's first major section. I got the level three clearance wristband. I made a save and stopping for now, as I gotta make some runs.

Not very far long, currently in the clinic, found the three Quartz crystals with Grace and did the short section with Leon afterwards.

You know, there is something intrinsically satisfying to playing a classic type survival horror game where you have to avoid enemies and scrounge for ressources and are then rewarded with a section where you can just action hero your way through the same level.

The segments where you first explore Racoon City and how it is layered is really reminding me of Evil Within 2 of all things. They even have the part where you can find items in the back of a box truck you have to open. Some of them even contain enemies.

I'm slightly (emphasis on 'slightly') mixed on the return to Racoon City. The dead colourless aesthetic, even down to the soundtrack, creates a mood Resident Evil has never had before. And it's quite something to behold. Also, the fact that it's an old cursed Leon back in an old cursed Racoon City is very poetic. But in letting the player really free-range around the place it does get rid of the tight pacing of the early game, and the drab environments are starting to get a bit stale. I mean, did we really need a sequence of events that end up being longer than the entire lake section in RE4 Remake just to get a detonator?

There are some great sequences though. A highlight (no pun intended) was the window shooting area. And while the Boss fight itself wasn't that great I did enjoy the spider enemy getting its flowers. I don't think we've seen this enemy in Resident Evil since REmake, and it was appreciated to see it be the first encounter when returning to Racoon City.

This is honestly what they should've done for RE3 Remake, but you know... not nuked.

Yes, yes. Honestly, while RC should have been longer in RE3R, it didn't bother me much, and the other areas are done so great (the hospital legit actually scared me) that they make up the flaws for me there. I long got over this a month or two after the game came out.

I still dont like the character swapping and I feel like it could have been done better as an A/B Scenario thing instead of this.

Some of Leon's sections are fucking ridiculous as well as some of the zombie behaviors. As cool as it is to play Leon, there are a couple sections that just go on way too long imo.

Three of Leon's early sections are really short. They're not that long. Once you get to Racoon City though, it's the right amount of length. I admit they could tone it down with some of the enemy spawns when you get specific items in certain areas, but none of the sections never felt like they dragged or went on for too long.

I got used to the character switching really easily, and most people don't have a problem with it.

You don't get an A/B scenario, but at least Capcom brought back the zapping system. For about 25% of the game. It's the thought and intricate design that counts though.

Great news!

I finished RE9, and it is at the very least one of the better Resi games. Overall I'm not left dissatisfied... but with what this game brings up (regarding Leon and the survivors of Racoon City) the player is going to be expecting a lot more answers that the game just doesn't give. Up till the very, very end I was waiting for something to pop up, and it just didn't. Now considering this game is going to sell a fuckton, there's likely some DLC coming down the pipeline that might shed some light on things that I'm still wondering about. Like what the fuck about Claire, and Ada, and Jill, who must have the same desease as Leon and Sherry? The game doesn't even mention them. And you'd think Sherry of all people might wanna drop Claire a line on this whole anti-virus. 🤷‍♂️

Agreed. I can help but feel like that game gave us a ton of fan service, but ultimately no real story progress and I wonder if Capcom doesn't even know what to do with the series or is simply unwilling to provide any closure to any plotlines in order to keep us buying RE games forever. At some point people will get off the ride.

People will get off the ride when they stop buying. At the end of the day, most people just want to shoot zombies and cool looking monsters. That's what the franchise has been about on the game play perspective. I do like the stories for some of these games, but i'm usually here for the characters and gameplay.

Also, I've been sort of saying this since RE6. Though it was more so about Ada and a few other things. RE is known for dangling and dropping plot threads like hot potatoes. They're even guilty of this in their animated movies. I just just find it hilarious, that now some people are finally starting to notice.

the lack of any real story impact is what holds RE9 back for me. Probably holding it back from my personal Top5 of the year.

I know I already said I didn't like the game, but I can recognized a great game and would still give it props....if it hadn't been for the total lack of any real impactful story to it. There are already games I would put in the Top 5 this year that I think are better experiences simple for being more well-rounded packages.

You do you, and I still gotta finish the game, but this and Romeo Is A Dead Man is in my top 5 so far. Also, I didn't like it 7 or 8, so it really not following up anything from those or not much, does make sense. Those two storylines are pretty much done. Though I can tell you're not exactly referring to those exactly.

I noticed that RE4R got an unannounced update on Steam without a news post, so I checked the store page and it looks like they (re-)removed the third-party DRM from it.

Good.

Well, it should never have happened in the first place, but it's good that it's getting removed now, at least.
