The story of Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 2 continues to be really good. I forgot how much time travel was involved but its done pretty well so far, I kinda recall one of the later games making it weird, but its been long enough that I can't be sure. Controls have started getting a bit clunky, like there is this weird bug that happens when you run down stairs, it makes Raziel quickly turn around then turn back, it doesn't mess up going down stairs but it adds an odd hitch to it. Also hes started getting stuck on short ledges which didn't happen earlier in the game and the camera seems to be having more issues. Not sure if its a port thing or if I'm in areas that were less tested or something. Still fun though.

Would love to be able to get a handle of this game without it hard crashing every 5 to 10 minutes. Don't think I seen any other game this consistent on ps5 at the ole freeze and quit from dashboard routine before. Especially from a game already supposed to have been out on other platforms for years by a developer with apparent decades of experience. I'd have thought it would be in better shape, but oh well. At least other games still seem to work for now. Like TemTem Survivors (it's probably called something else but am calling it survivors to cut the fat here) Not only does it work, it also works offline unlike the previous TemTem game, and seems well suited to a survivors genre, cos you got all the cute critters, colourful worlds, eclectic moves and some sort of excuse for progression built in. No idea what the stor!y is, if there's one. No idea who or what anyone is. But it works

Okay, I completed All Characters Epilouge Endings in Rushing Beat X. The complete the game as Juliet Trophy can only be done in free mode, but I will save her for another time.

EDIT: I did boss rush as Kazan and my new time is 16:30!

Having played quite a bit of Nine Sols got me craving Hollow Knight again, so I've been enjoying the ol' girl once more. And I've gotten farther than I have previously, percentage completion wise. Maybe Silksong inoculated me more than I realized, because some of the Boss variants like Failed Champion, Lost Kin, Soul Tyrant, and even Grey Prince Zote - Bosses I previously couldn't beat (or maybe just couldn't be bothered with) - where very doable this time around.

Even the Path of Pain - another challenge I never got to - wasn't too much of a hassle, but then Hiveblood took the sting out of that one.

Difficulty through attrition is what's really killing me now. The third trail in the Colosseum of Fools and the Radiance boss aren't that hard, they just wear down your concentration and enthusiasm. The Radiance boss especially and needing to chore your way through fucking Hollow Knight every... fucking... time, it's just deflating.

I remember reading once that Super Metroid speedrunners call a certain room 'The Worst Room In The Game' semi-officially. It's the room in Lower Norfair where you first encounter Gold Pirates, and have to climb up a vertical room full of them while also breaking through blocks above you, then clearing them before they recover. A lot of the time they do this without the Screw Attack because it's faster without it, but without it you can't kill the Gold Pirates or break the blocks while still ascending, so it takes a lot of "extra" work to complete and tends to kill runs, especially for beginners.

I think about that every time I play Resident Evil 4 and get up to 4-2, which contains RE4's The Worst Room In The Game in the form of the Novistador hive. Novistadors are already a pain in the ass to fight, since they tend to hang out above Leon's eye level, so you need to take time to aim up at them before you can shoot them, time that they'll use to instantly close the distance on you. The sewers were mostly full of tight corridors so they have less scope to flank you, at least, and the ballroom is pretty short so it's not that bad to just run past them all, but the hive is a huge open space where they can come at you from anywhere in massive numbers, and also requires you to force yourself through narrow corridors into wide open side rooms where they can still flank you as they swarm inside, but you can't run past them. And there are no checkpoints in this room until you get to the exit tunnel with the smashing pillars, so if you die (and you will) you have to do it again from the beginning.

The one time I played on Professional difficulty, I died more times in that room than anywhere else in the game, and I didn't feel any closer to figuring it out each time, nor was I having any amount of fun with the struggle. I'm only playing on Normal this time, but I just beat up the Detachable Right Hand and now I'm dreading having to go back through there. At least it's the last time in the entire game I have to deal with the miserable insects.

@Worgen, I finally got Turbo Overkill on sale before it ended! It is amazing! I am still early in, and loving this Apogee throwback shooter!

I did a few more successful rounds of Boss Rush Mode in Rushing Beat X. Something I noticed is that when beating the mode, it doesn't save your time after turning off the game. I think it's a glitch, and they should fix that. I beat this mode with pretty much almost all of the cast now.

I should give Hollow Knight another try. I love the atmosphere of it, but the first boss is so frustrating to me because I know EXACTLY what to do to beat it, I know EXACTLY how to avoid its attacks, but I can't seem to pull it off. And it's not the game's design, it's 100% me sucking.

Very cool. That one is a really damn good one. Its got a few annoying parts, but even then its damn cool. After you're finished with it you should check out Dread Templar and Mohrta.

Well, I finally got the Radiance down for the count in Hollow Knight, thanks in large part to the Unbreakable Strength and Grimmchild charms (for as much as I could upgrade Grimmchild, cuz they can miss me with fighting Nightmare King Grimm for that last buff). In one attempt I got blasted on my way up to that final strike. *sigh*

I got 103% at the end - the full ending apparently being 112% - but I ended this game satisfied, so I'm gonna leave those final digits where they are and move on. Probably to Silksong again.

Beat Soul Reaver 2. Yeah, its story is still top tier. By the end the gameplay was getting a bit grating, lots of enemy fights and you kinda had to work around the iffy lock on at times, usually by running around the enemy, spamming your running attack then locking on when their backs were turned. But, it was still awesome.

So awesome that I had to grab the remaster of 'Legacy of Kain: Defiance' despite still working on Monster Hunter Stories 3, having got Minos a few days ago and preordered Pragmata that comes out in a few days. I'm still pretty early in it, but it really does show the improvements for a ps2 era (Xbox?) game. Gameplay and combat is so much smoother, it has the occasional weirdness with jumping, like that it will pause briefly before he jumps. I'll see if it keeps happening. Story... I'm not sure exactly when it takes place compared to Soul Reaver, it seems like its not too long after its events, but I shall see.

Played Dark Wizard for the Sega CD for about 2 hours then reset and realized that for some reason the emulator doesn't actually keep any saves made to the internal ram cart, I needed to configure a backup ram cart and now I can actually save and reload.

Played a little more Elden Ring (because of time constraints, I'm only playing this on the weekend). Beat two more bosses: The Grave Warden Duelist (took about two dozen tries; his patterns weren't difficult, but I kept getting a little too aggressive, and just ended up siccing my wolves on him) and the Tibia Mariner (one try; just had to kite his undead buddies). I also did some exploration in the Siofra River area (which brings back some memories of Blackreach from Skyrim).

I didn't play but my buddy tried to. He just bought himself an Xbox 360 and Burnout Take Down (3 for the OG Xbox). Goes to play it and it gives him a message about not being able to start. Internet offers ton of advice, including deleting the last 360 update!!! I don't even know how to do that. But what happened to this series? It's like its being sabotaged. Removed from the stores? Only one you can get is Paradise City (I've got it on Xbox 1X: I better check to ensure it still works). Steam can't save. I have the EA version on PC. Says I don't own it and won't work. Classics like Burnout 2, which you'd think would be on the store is not and the disc is not BC with Xbox 1X. Or Series. Or even, I think, the 360. Huh? It's like it was murdered for some reason.

I don't know why so many devs don't understand the problem of depth perception in 3D. Something like this needs to be from the side. The platforms here rotate to you and away. The camera can't be turned. Died too many times because I couldn't tell how big the platform was.

That sucks. Burn Out Revenge was awesome. If you like arcade racers have you tried Tokyo Xtreme Racer?

I'm kinda tempted by it but Forza 6 comes out next month.

@Worgen, I played some more TB Overkill and completed the 4th stage. The weapons really start expanding, and I got the flamethrower upgrade for the minigun, and grenade upgrade for the sawed off shotgun.

Making my way through Raya Lucaria in Elden Ring. It's hard to gauge properly what kind of headway I'm making in the game in general, in terms of the critical path (which I've read is like, a tiny fraction of the overall experience), or total completion, or even my own leveling/progression. The game just keeps expanding every way at every step. It's overwhelming, in a good way. By now I've beaten around 20 bosses which is more than I've encountered in Souls game I ever played and holy shit, I read there's 165 bosses in this? I gather that most of them are gonna be mini bosses but still - wow.

Anyway, Raya Lucaria is awesome looking. Bloodborne meets Hogwarts. The art direction for the game is consistently otherworldly. A lot of it reminds me of the old John Howe illustrations of The Silmarillion. This game does for Tolkien what Dragon's Crown did for Frank Frazetta. The irony being of course that GRRM gets a credit. And it doesn't escape me that the whole thing is framed as the anti-LotR: you're on a quest to reforge a ring rather than destroy one, and in a place called The Lands Between, which is basically just another way of saying Middle-earth.

I'll add that to my wishlist and keep an eye on it for their sales, thanks for the tip!
Burnout Revenge was the first game I bought for the 360. In 2005, you couldn't find one and then in April 2006, Bestbuy had a huge showcase at which I got the console with 20Gb gigantic external drive, you had to buy a separate wireless adapter for $100!!! In 2006!!! and this game and it was fantastic. Justified the purchase and looked awesome on my 1080p 50" Sony DLP TV.
I will likely pay full price for Forza Horizon 6. Spent my first 3 years of my life in Japan as my dad was stationed there and I've had a soft spot in my heart for the place my whole life. Wish it was drive on the right side of the road but, can't have everything. FH 3, 4, and 5 are some of my all time favorite games. Feels like a party playing them.
EDIT: Phew, Paradise City, at least, does work on my Xbox One X. At least for now as being a digital purchase? You never really own it.
