I think this is single-handedly the most shamelessly corrupt world cup I've ever watched. Forget about the Americanization of the game, getting quartered by ad breaks and having the final match turned halfway into a Madonna show. Now we're at the point FIFA reverses red cards just so Balogun can play Belgium. Why do I even bother watching. Just tell me by how much you want to win.

EDIT: All this because Trump called to bully and/or bribe FIFA.

There was also the post-game ban against the Qatar player who broke the Canadian player's leg. They really are just making it up as they go.

Oof, good bye Brazil. Congrats to Norway, who I guess I am obliged to support now. Kinda wish I watched the game, but didn't wanna wake anyone up. The games being in America really makes games this world cup difficult to watch.

Very unsportsmanlike. Not to mention the Estadio Azteca is 7,300 feet/2,240 meters above sea level. How that is not against the rules, I don't understand.

I don't agree. FIFA itself is very corrupt, and Messi has done much worse with no red cards. Also that ref was full of shit.

Note: I also don't like how the US treated the Iranian team.

Also guess who set a precedent with Ronaldo, Otamendi, and Caicedo.

Edit: And Messi

Edit 2: Note I would have wanted to support Mexico, but I am now backing the UK/England given their fanbase.

Refs hand or don't hand red cards all the time. Yes, Messi should've been carded and wasn't. And Croatia got screwed out of their tying goal, and Ronaldo shouldn't have had his suspension unsuspeded, and Brazil got handed a pity penalty, etc. Shoulda coulda would, welcome to football.

It's unheard of to have the president of the host country brag about muscling the head of FIFA into reversing a red card in his favor. Fuck the US team, fuck Trump.

I don't like Trump either, and small countries' and federations' teams do get fucked, but it's not the US's fans' fault FIFA wants more US money. In a few years they will do the same with China and then, in a few more years, India. Also, the US team is not at fault; don't blame the players. The world should reform FIFA while the US boots Trump.

Edit: Also it's soccer.

Chupala. Mexico loses 3-2 to England even though England spent half the game down one player and Mexico had home soil advantage. La pasión mexicana por el fútbol continúa siendo diezmada por la insoslayable ineptitud que aquel pueblo tiene en el deporte. Speaking of which, this is their third time hosting and the first time they don't even make it to quarter finals, although to be fair they did play 5 games what with the new round of 32 phase.

Brazil losing to Norway felt like an upset but them Brazil hasn't had a good run since 2002 and they're out in the round of 16 for the first time since 1990. France is still probably the fiercest team playing football today but if an underdog has a chance of taking it, Norway or Morocco would be nice.

Spain and Belgium should defeat Portugal and USA tomorrow unless Ronaldo gets any more freebies or Trump continues to drunk call FIFA.

Yes and no. Only the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa call it soccer, iirc. Everywhere else calls it some translation or variation of football. And the word soccer itself is of English origin, an abbreviated nickname for Association Football.

Trump disappointing as usual. Should've asked Infantino to just let the US team go straight to the finals. "I need you to find me 12 goals"

Friendly reminder that an USA win is now official illegitimate since it has now been confirmed that rat Infantino is abusing his power to help the US due to getting a boner from the open corruption there.

Here is hoping him so slavishly devoting himself to Trump gets him taken down when there is a reckoning against Trump's cronies.

Hack frauds lost to Belgium 4-1. Fuck Trump, fuck Infantino. All the phone calls and all the dirt in the world couldn't get USA past the round of 16 in their own world cup. All that drama over some weak striker whose biggest feat was to spike the ball and miss the easiest kind of goal you can score in football.

You guys lost to the UK when you had the most ungodly home-field advantage. You have no business talking what's fair, and what's unfair.

There was a war in ancient Greece over which city-state owned the place the Olympic games were held.

Nearly 2000 years ago, the Emperor Nero competed in the Olympic games, claiming victory in every event, including a chariot race he didn't finish because he fell off.

Big sports have always been political.
