Go to your profile screen, you can get to this by clicking on your own avatar or username beside a post twice. Then you'll notice when you mouse over your avatar it says 'edit,' click it. On this screen you can also set a custom image thing to go around your profile by clicking on 'cover.' You can do the same kind of thing when you make threads too.
Alternatively you can click on your username at the top of the page to bring up the dropdown menu. Click on your avatar there and you can edit it.
