So, in my state, 2 nineteen year old idiots decided not declare they came from a hot spot in another state 8 days ago. They were found out yesterday and are in hospital, its that severe. Their stupidity shut down 2 whole shopping centres, 5 restaurants, 2 schools and a grocery store. It is one of the most frustrating things because we haven't had a new case in months. Everyone has been doing the right thing and we almost had it gone
That's why I have this horrible feeling that this is going to drag into next year. There is a high enough concentration of stupid people to sabotage any attempt at collective action.

I probably shouldn't be complaining. Masks are not really a thing here because it hasn't been necessary. We aren't in a bad state like other countries. Most businesses are open.

Also 5 million from all sides of the political spectrum have been working hard together. And it takes 2 idiots to ruin it

Outside having deficiencies, there's still no significant basis to believe dietary supplements such as zinc or vit D are any use, nor any convincing evidence for hydroxychloroquime. That study on vitamin D, magnesium and B12 is an extremely weak study: it's very small, and even the limited information available accepts considerable disparities in things like age between the groups studied.

The stupid thing is, at least one seemingly useful candidate for treating covid-19 has been discovered: an old, well established and commonly used corticosteroid called dexamethasone, at a cost of about £50 per patient (UK; albeit plus the very considerable ICU costs). A large and well controlled study in the UK involving thousands of patients found it reduced mortality by about a third.
Yeah, I realize it was a small study but I wouldn't be surprised if taking a cocktail like that early on would lower the severity of the infection a notch and shorten recovery time. Not that it's any cure or anything. And, it's something people have access to that they don't need a prescription for. I saw the thing about the steroid and looks pretty promising, much more than hydroxy.

Watch out for idiots like MysteriousMr.Enter for spreading horrible misinformation about the virus and those who it infect. I am surprised the dislike bar is not bigger. I already didn't care much for Mr. Enter to begin with, but now I despise him for the total delusional, smug, loser that he is. Also, healthcare is not a human right? Go fuck yourself Mr. Enter. If he actually gets the virus, I am going to laugh at him so hard. See him talk his way out of that one. I don't understand how anyone can agree or follow fool such as that. You know what, I don't want to.

It's actually pretty simple: stupid people tend to travel in herds. Easier to beat up college grads and never learn anything that way.

The only good decent thing is the people in the comments section calling out his bullshit, and that this Dethroning Moment of Suck page just got bigger.

Is that what they're calling it now?
I'm guessing it'll be aspergillosis.

One of the problems with lung infections is that the lungs can produce large quantities of mucus, plus this fills up with lots of general detritus (dead cells, bits of cells, immune cells), and this greatly thickens the mucus layer over the lining of the lungs, so reducing gas exchange and why people have trouble breathing. This and other problems can also provide a pretty good medium for all sorts of other infections to take root.

It's not that I'd exactly wish death on anyone, but from a utilitarian perspective, the odd person like Bolsonaro dying would provide an example which might encourage action that would save many thousands.

It could also have the reverse effect. Demagogues like Bolsonaro must be exposed as frauds and spat out by society, not turned into martyrs. Bolsonaro's untimely death would give his supporters an out. It allows them the delusion that he would have gone on to do great things if he hadn't tragically died. This would just make them more likely to support the next demagogue. They would feel robbed of all the ''good'' Bolsonaro could have done and would cry out for a successor who might be even more dangerous.

Demagogues must be defeated democratically. Its unhealthy if a country doesn't get the chance to do that.

It seems that the Trump family might actually had an answer to corona only to kill it because they knew Democrat voters would be more likely to be affected by corona. Oh dear...

Is it possible to drag people through the courts for things like that once they are no longer in power?

This is just how these people think, everyone needs to be on full guard with that in mind. Expecting empathy or fairness from them is a fool's game, they just don't see us as human, only threats/competition to their power and wealth that need to be stamped out. Solutions require working around this heavily problematic mindset and not being surprised and taken off balance by it.

And that's the problem. The media for example keep expecting any day now for Trump to "pivot" because the idea that our country is at the wims of a madman 2 bad days away from forgetting how to feed himself is fucking terrifying. Unfortunately, a bear coming right at you is not going to suddenly pivot and warn you about forest fires.

"Must" is a bit far. Plenty of demagogues have died or been forcibly removed, and their countries have recovered into better-functioning democracies.

Cases in point would be Mussolini, Salazar & Franco, but there are plenty.

I don't think martyrdom really works when you kill yourself by failing to take basic, personal disease prevention measures.

I mean, the right to kill yourself in the name of sheer stupidity isn't that appealing.
