Hello friends,

So these 2 are 2 of greatest FPS series, genre defining series. here we discuss which one we find best. shall we?

in 1993 Doom not only revolutionize FPS genre but also created it (yeah wolf 3d was first FPS) when FPS was not even official genre but these games rather called Doom clones. as a result Doom 1 and Doom 2 were 2 of best games of its time.

Half life in 1998 change the shape of not only FPS genre but gaming forever and become most groundbreaking FPS of all time. Half life 2 also revolutionize FPS genre because it set the bar so high in 2004 but same year Doom 3 was released which was almost as good.

Doom is only gaming series where each and every game is masterpiece and it consist of 5 main games.

Half life consist of 2 main games that are no doubt masterpeice, 2 expansions that are good, 2 episode where one is bad, other is good, one is VR spinoff.

so between 2 i gave edges to Doom now, otherwise i would have given it to Half life if real Half life 3 happened and story resolved.

so my friend which is better of 2? lets vote and discuss

DOOM is pure FPS gameplay

Half-Life added genius level physics and narrative elements but the shooting wasn’t as thrilling

Clearly this will only be answered by seeing which of the two can last the longest in an acid bath.

Also Gordon Freeman looks...emotional in that picture. More emotion than he's ever prescribed in those games.

I don't think they are quite similar enough to really compare in this way. Doom is more combat oriented, Half Life is more exploration and puzzles.

Now, you could argue about which one is more influential and that would be a pretty close fight, I think Doom would come out on top, but just barely. Both of them really changed things.

Although I do think that Doom easily comes out ahead when it comes to fanart.

Halo is the best FPS series there is, but if I'm picking between these two, it would be Doom.

If we're asking what's more influential, that's difficult to say, because they both changed things, but Half-Life arguably wouldn't exist without Doom, so there's that. In terms of gameplay, as has been pointed out, Half-Life has more exploration, but overall, I enjoy Doom more. Of the Doom games I've played, three are in my top 10 FPS, while no Half-Life game gets an entry. If we're talking about the landscape, Doom is more prominent, even after Alyx. Doom's settled on a direction for itself, while Half-Life these days is best known not for what it IS doing, but what it ISN'T (releasing Half-Life 3). And even in story/characters/lore, Doom is arguably better than Half-Life at this point as well. I mean, okay, Samuel Hayden is no Wallace Breen, but the Doom Slayer is a silent protagonist done right, while Gordon is exemplary of all the ways a silent protagonist is a drawback, and while Half-Life 2 hinted at a larger world, Doom 3, Doom Eternal, and even Doom 2016 to an extent fleshed out their worlds.

Granted, I've played more of Doom (Doom 1, 2, 3, 2016, Eternal) than Half-Life (HL2 and its episodes), but as it currently stands, I prefer Doom.

Is Master Chief Collection any good on PC as far as campaigns go? I got pretty bored with them on Xbox, but then again I only played through the first two and some of 3/Reach.

Thinking they might be more fun with KB/M.

I've no idea. The only Halo game I've played on PC is Combat Evolved, when it was originally ported to the PC in 2003.

Well, I really liked them, but I also really liked them on xbox so I'm not sure if that is what you are looking for. But, Keyboard/mouse works fantastically with them.

I couldn't get OG Doom to work on my PC and couldn't get in to new Doom. I beat all the Half-Life games + expansions. Gonna have to go Half-Life.

To play the OG Doom and Doom 2 you want to use a source port like GZdoom.
It should run on pretty much any system.

I have Windows 10, and just redownloaded The Ultimate Doom off of Steam. Booted it up. No need for compatibility mode, no need for troubleshooting, worked fine straight from installation.

Just don't try to alt-tab out.

Unless they changed it, it will be running from dosbox, which is great if you want to have an experience just like it was back in the day, but using a source port lets you use mouselook and have modern resolutions, plus it just works better. You can also go nuts with doom mods and there are some really awesome ones out there like Unloved and Brutal Doom.
