I haven’t played the main story in so long. Hopefully you did the Brothers and Sisters mission in chapter four with the nun and kid, because that leads into Of Men and Angels, which has another big narrative payoff involving the Fine Art of Conversation mission that will happen later.

Speaking of random characters, did you visit the Aberdeen pig farm, or bring that one dude to the doctor’s office in Saint Denis?
Yes for all 3 of those. I recognize the nun later shows up as the Mother Superior from RDR1(notably the Undead Nightmare DLC), did the Pig Farm(I need a shower just thinking about that) and took the guy to the doctors office.

I was shocked to see him Being hung at a public execution. That was a bit of a twist.

You can save that guy, among others from getting hanged but not sure what happens to them afterwards. That amputation was cringey though, even with the sound of the saw let alone watching it...ugh.

Reminds me of this clip that’s actually kinda informative

I just finished Act 2 of Ghost of Tsushima, and... wow. I have no words for what just happened in the last few sidequests and story missions of the act. Brilliant stuff.

One more to go. Let's see it through to the end. Maybe I'll even go for the platinum; I don't think I've ever gotten one of those, at least not on the PS4.

Yeah the achievements for GoT are not that hard. I could platinum it today if I loaded it back up and went looking for a few collectibles.

Giving Warmachine: Tactics a go since I play the tabletop version (and its online emulator now). It's... weird/surreal, that's my only first impression so far. -.-

Let me know what you think about that game. Ive had it in my library for awhile but I just haven't gotten around to trying it. I did really like the table top game and still have my khador army from it.

Currently finishing up Spiritfarer, holy crap this is a hard game emotionally, its been a really long time since I did something in a game that made me have to go lay down and just think about things.

Warframe, new expansion came out, got new things to do and get.

Smite: Been playing smite since beta, you can always expect it to be on my currently play list, just forgot to bring it up before.

Fatal Frame 2 aka Project Zero 2

So, with a few hours under my belt, I've come to wonder why this series isn't talked about more, because this is a very solid survival horror game that can hold its own against your Resi Evils or Silent Hills (including the best of them). Is it because the second game is the only good one or something?

Cuz it looks pretty good for its time. Sound design is spot on. Writing is decent enough, and the combination of Japanese folklore with a liberal sprinkling of J-horror tropes makes for a fun setting. Also, it doesn't control entirely like ass, particularly the combat. The latter works by going into a first person mode with basically modern fps controls, and fighting ghosts by taking pictures of them. But the game cleverly compensates the ease of play by A) making the field of view in 1st person really tight while many enemies like to move laterally or even teleport, B) you're very frail and can only take a couple hits, and C) the most effective way to attack is to wait until enemies a right in your face, usually while winding up their attacks. Unlike many classic survival its a combat system that's not a chore to avoid, but still provides enough stakes and challenge to keep things tense.

At the moment, it's alright. Kinda janky, gets a little monotonous at stages and the cut scenes don't know what they want to be. Luckily, I've got a relatively glitch & bug free run so far with none of the issues that plagued the game for ages post-release.

Two biggest criticisms - the AI sucks; the UI sucks even more. And it falls into that undesirable slot of being too much like a tabletop game to recommend to gamers at large (it tries to be an X-Com like, but kinda fails), and too much of a departure from Warmachine to feel like a decent adaptation of the mechanics (it tries to be faithful to the mechanics with gameplay phases, allocation and activation steps, but too much is different for it to feel like it should be a WMH game).

That said, if you used to play, try the WarTable module for WarMachine, great way of getting back into the game at zero cost. Depending on when you last played, learning the updated rules will be fine, I think (Mk2 to Mk3 big change was pre-measuring now allowed, and it's a one click all info set up on WarTable which is so user friendly).

Project Cars 3. So, I absolutely loved Driveclub and consider it one of the best racing games of all time because it feels so designed for perfection to be played on a gamepad while still maintaining the authenticity and feel of specific cars. This is really one of the most underrated games of all time. It might not be the most realistic, existing somewhere between sim and arcade so attracting really neither audience, but the controls and handling felt closest to steering an actual car to me. It also looked absolutely amazing with a huge selection of cars and beautiful tracks. No other racing games I've played since then really scratched that itch. Not PC 1&2, not Gran Turismo Sport and not Grid Autosport. Closest, definitely, is PC3. PC 1&2 really didn't play well with a pad even if there was a set-up that came close to GT Sport that someone figured out on reddit. I felt with that game every effort was also put in the aerodynamics and realism of the car and not really in the weight or collision detection. It really felt more like a performance simulation for car manufacturers than a game. GT Sport was really good but I didn't really like the progression system and excessive race requirements that always make you feel like being at a disadvantage due to the heavy grinding. I could also do without the obnoxious interludes of Lewis Hamilton and the always online requirement to track your progression. The game took itself way too seriously. But the controls with a gamepad, yeah, that was pretty great in GT Sport.

However, closest by far to Driveclub is no doubt PC3. It controls very similair in both feel and responsiveness of the cars. One of Driveclub's creators apparently worked on PC3. Huge selection of cars, really neat career mode and nice selection of tracks as well. PC3 plays like a dream with a pad but it's not as lavishly produced as Driveclub. Eventhough it's now 6 years old the game still looks amazing espescially the weather/rain effects while PC3 looks like an iRacer in places. It really shows the unlimited budget Evolution must have received from Sony. But other than that PC3 is still one of the best succesors to Driveclub. I'll take what I can get as we will never have another Driveclub anyway with Evolution disbanded.

Anyways I also hope that those rumors of a NFS Hot Pursuit remaster are true. This is definitely my No 1 racing game to this day. Just long straight tracks that were so awesome in the online 1 Racer vs 1 Cop Interceptor mode. It's the only game I ever played competitively online. Soooo good. The trailer is still amazing.

EA will fuck it up based on their track record over the last decade. NFS: Most Wanted on Xbox is still my favorite. If they could take what made that so good and add modern design tech I’d be chomping at the bit.

Thats too bad. I might still give it a shot, but I have a bunch of stuff on my backlog and new stuff is still coming out so it will probably just sit.

Control: AWE (Alan Wake Edition)

It's fine. Not really anything new or super awesome like the core game, or the previous DLC.

It's basically a playable trailer for Alan Wake 2, which they heavily hint at, which I'm cool with. But it didn't have a fun mission like the movie projector OOP (object of power) from the previous DLC. It didn't introduce a new set of powers, just a single power, but it doesn't even give you enough ability points to unlock it from doing the new content. So you are forced to, if you've already spent all your points previously, spend your influence in game, to reset your powers, which means you are forced to remap everything just to try out the new power, which is .....tedious.

What it does, instead of giving new powers when you deal with OOPs, is give you unique, named weapon mods for the various styles of gun you can have. They are REALLY good mods, not going to lie, but I don't really use the weapon much, and mostly use my mind powers to fight enemies.

It was fun, the little file dossiers and stuff were interesting, and it was nice to see Alan Wake again, but otherwise, kind of....eh?

Wasteland 3.

I'm quite annoyed about this. There was apparent Steam pre-order, but apparently (through whatever alternative service) it could have been preordered at a a normal price (~£30-40). Without preorder it, it cost ~£55 in the UK. That is disgusting. They got away with it only because I'd been so short of things to play and getting very bored, otherwise I would have skipped it for a long time until the price came down.

It's not a bad game, don't get me wrong. There's a lot to criticise, but a lot to like about it, too (certain quirks of the tabletop were nice to see, the graphic design is pretty good for the time & budget, and the general aesthetic captures the feel of the IK spot on). The issue is that I was aware of its KickStarter background and the release controversies, so the game is very very very severely tarnished by its reputation, bordering on notoriety, not helped by the developer basically clamming up after the last release in early 2018 (IIRC). You essentially have two small-ish games in one as there's the Jakes/Sturgis story (20 missions & tutorial) and the (shorter, I believe, nowhere near getting around to it) Haley Twins story and all multiplayer features bundled into the cost of the base game. Whether that's worth your time to play (what with a dead multiplayer community, no developer support and a metric butt-ton of baggage) is up to you.

I run a tiny WMH lore channel and I'm debating with myself whether to cover Tactics as a one-off retrospective look at.

So its only got a Cygnar campaign?

Neat, I have been meaning to get back into the lore for Warmachine, I recall it being really good but I haven't kept up with things since I stopped playing.
