We do not talk about that. The last time I thought of Robocop, it would being disappointed by the remake.
Because fighting games live or die on guess characters/crossovers. Especially in today's market where publishers want to expose their franchises to a wider demographic or bring in new players. You may not agree with it, but it works. See Soul Calibur 6, Tekken 7, Smash Bros, Injustice 2, and Killer Instinct. At the end of the day it's all about that brand recognition people wanting their ultimate X vs. Y fantasy come true in game form.Look, haven't played Mortal Kombat since III, but I really don't get this obsession with guest characters, especially ones that really don't fit. Unless...I dunno, maybe Earthrealm decided it needed cyborg police officers in light of the threat of Outworld?
The pricing is the only real damper here. It makes sense of course to wait til May 26th as one could buy everything including this new update for $60, but they know few if any of their fan base will wait for that. They could've at least given a bigger discount to early adopters. I think this pack should've only been at most $20 by itself for anyone who already spent $100 initially on the Premium Edition, or $30 with the first Kombat Pack. This made me pull the trigger and actually go out and get MK11 yesterday. I'll be streaming it this weekend as I try to not suck at a fighting game.
I didn't know about the pricing when I went to buy it at Walmart yesterday, but luckily I only paid $30 bucks for the base game. I don't have the extra characters or story anyway, and I probably wont get them unless I really really get invested in a fighting game randomly. I usually just play MK for the story and move on. However with all this extra free-time lately....who knows. I have like a 5 weeks before the next big 2020 release so might as well see where this rabbit hole takes me.The pricing is the only real damper here. I actually looked up the platinum guide for the game and it honestly looks fun without a lot of online bullshit. So if I get into it, I might very well Plat it.Oh it's deep, especially if you get attached to tricking a favorite character out. The new "Krypt" itself (literally an entire island to explore) is like a standalone third person meta game.
I got the Plat for both and really it ultimately depends on how much you enjoy the games, because both can be pretty grindy. The biggest of MK11’s (this and that) can be mitigated pretty easily with the guides though.I actually looked up the platinum guide for the game and it honestly looks fun without a lot of online bullshit. It's funny, I never cared to Plat games until I got my Bloodborne plat.....since then, I've been trying to plat games on purpose.
Dunno about reinventing. I think they're cashing in on 80s and 90s nostalgia cause that's the prime demo likely to spend money on dlc chars.I really dislike the guest characters thing. The best one I ever seen was Geese.
Mortal Kombat has an entire roster of people they can reinvent. And they have the talent to make more characters. They threw away great characters from the last game that should have made a come back. I would have like to see another Ferra-Torr pairing (I know the ending, no need to bring it up). Takeda rocks.

Nah, that's only the normie-aimed meh generic fighting games that are there to offer spectacle. Mechanically deep fighting games live and die on depth and systems and have a hardcore following because of that. It's why there were literally over 20 different fighting games with DBZ chars but only when they gave the franchise to arcsys did it finally become a respectable competitive game with DBFZ. They made it akin to Guilty Gear so of course it would.Because fighting games live or die on guess characters/crossovers. I never denied the deep mechanics of the fighters I just mentioned, but at the end of the day, there a people who don't give a shit about the mechanics and there for the spectacle. This is true. Before 8th generation, fighting usually had none, or 1 or 2 guess characters at best. With Smash Bros. Brawl being the exception as it had characters from Sega and Konami. Don't bother mentioning Marvel vs. Capcom, Capcom vs. SNK, or X-Men vs. Street fighter, as those were the very few exceptions. And that only increased 10 fold with Smash Bros. 4/Ultimate. There is legacy involved of course; especially of we're talking Smash. Now a lot of fighting games have at least 5-10 guess characters with Mortal Kombat and Injustice not far behind Nintendo. You have characters from Gears of War and Halo showing up to fight Rash from Battletoads in KI. All of that, regardless of mechanics is brand recognition scoping out to a wider audience. You'll have some that will learn the mechanics, and some that won't. At the end of the day, it means big green for the publishers and those involved.Nah, that's only the normie-aimed meh generic fighting games that are there to offer spectacle.
