Wow, a live-service game that barely had any contents to keep it going, followed by delays of the "free" contents, isn't doing so hot with the player base dropping. This is the biggest surprise since Jesus was resurrected. /s

On a serious note, I do hope SE doesn't see this as a sign that we don't want avengers games at all; we want a GOOD Avengers game

EDIT: so it turns out they lost more than $48m; It looks like some sources are saying it's actually $63m. No idea where the numbers are coming from, but still a huge loss regardless

I love to see this stunning failure. Plenty AAA 60 dollar titles have these kind of microtransactions but this takes the cake. Like all you had to be a was a competent action game but no all the greed did ya in. Not even upset by this.

Now I wait for Ubisoft to kill the shit out of Beyond Good and Evil 2 and I can let my years of hype and now disappointment lay to rest.

Good! Don't try dumb tactics like that ever again! I don't even want a sequel if they're involved. Disney, that goes double for you too for allowing and enabling this to happen. If anyone needs me, I'll be waiting for Miles clean up your mess. Once again, it is up to a Spider-Man shoulder the responsibility and be great.

There's no BG+E 2. There's an ubisoft game with some furry characters using the name to get peoples attention.

Beyond Good and Evil was a fun little game whose chance to have an actual sequel has long since passed, as much as it pains me to say it.

Good news, but the whales in mobile gaming will make sure they regain that easily.

I project a downward spiral for gaming unless a regulation is not undertaken.

The messed up part is. Playing Ghost of Tsushima and the Legends update shows you can have a perfectly solid single player action stealth adventure no microtransaction experience and still have a fun as hell multiplayer. In fact that used to be a thing but now its one or the other there is probably more but Ghost is recent in my memory.

Its a shame, but not a surprise.

Curious to see what will become of of the post-launch support, though. The problem with these live-service games is that they aren't meant to be defined by the content that they launch with, but by the content that they release months or years down the line, but obviously, if there isn't the playerbase (or the income) to support that additional content, there is no point making it.

So the game has been promised 2 Hawkeye characters (weird), and Spider-Man for PS consoles. Curious to see if much of that actually pans out.

Who knows, maybe they will pull an Anthem, and put the game back in the oven.

This is a rare pleasing turn of fate. I can imagine a few baffled and exasperated out-of-touch execs trying to figure out why their perfect cocktail of 'all the popular things' fell flat on its arse instead of making them all the money forever. The vexxed calls from Verizon asking them why this garunteed concoction of profit has not transformed into new users...subscribers for whatever impotent service they're pushing. And the gum! Oh the poor gum executives. Whatever are they to do now? Fail upwards probably. I suppose it's better to have parasitically nestled in a warm corpse than to never have nestled at all?

Sadly, like all the times this happens the only message Square-Enix is likely going to get from this is that people don't like The Avengers anymore, or blame it on COVID, or really anything other than the real reason: "This was a terrible half assed game we put no effort into and stuck in microtransactions and other shady crap for no good reason."

I didn't play mankind divided but I heard it was basically set up for a sequel we never got(and apparently filled with microtransactions).
It has a self-contained story but indeed many threads of the larger conspiracy were reserved for the next game. It was really just a crime story that felt unfulfilling because the most crucial plot points remained unresolved. It was really a 'middle game' so to say, until Squeenix pulled the plug. Mankind Divided had it's moments but I enjoyed Human Revolution much more. It really delved much more into the cyberpunk/techno-thriller element of it that is just much more interesting than chasing the tail of a terrorist. The hub city was really cool though, but it was just one unlike HR. Didn't notice the microtransactions though.

I legit have no interest in this game. It always looked unappealing. SE should just make more FF games or bring back Chrono Trigger or something.

This game should have been, with even half way competent direction, the easiest sell in the history of gaming. It’s the fucking Avengers with an expanded roster of fan favourites. I should have had this hooked into my veins for the last few months.
