This film looks sick, and is the first film I'm genuinely interested in in a long time. Has anyone else seen this trailer? Or know anything about this movie? What do you think? Interesting? John Wick knock-off?
Well one reason he’s probably an ex covert ops hardass is that if Michael Douglas’ Defens went about his day today, he’d have been shot by a SWAT team inside of fifteen minutes. In watching the Trailer again, I feel like the movie ruins it's own idea.
At first you think this guy is just a normal everyday family man, with a bottle of rage building inside of him that get's cut loose and sends him down a spiral that could have been extrememly interesting and entertaining to watch. Think of something like Falling Down starring Michael Douglas.
But then the trailer spoils the fact that he is some ex-government killer or some shit like that and it turns out he is crazy trained that John Wick or the guy from Taken. And i feel like that fucks up the whole idea of the film that the trailer sets up in the first half. It would have been crazy cool to have this regular guy just go nuts and end up pissing off gangsters or something and has to fight himself and his family free of it all. Instead it's just a normal action movie.
I might still check this out on Amazon if it comes to my prime video service though.
Remind me what colour Michael Douglas is?Well one reason he’s probably an ex covert ops hardass is that if Michael Douglas’ Defens went about his day today, he’d have been shot by a SWAT team inside of fifteen minutes.
Seriously?Remind me what colour Michael Douglas is?
It's a movie, it doesn't have to be realistic it just has to be funWell one reason he’s probably an ex covert ops hardass is that if Michael Douglas’ Defens went about his day today, he’d have been shot by a SWAT team inside of fifteen minutes.
I mean, it's true. You've seen the news this year haven't you?Seriously?
There is no need to race bait. Knock that shit off.
Yeah doesn't matter, has nothing to do with this movie discussion.I mean, it's true. You've seen the news this year haven't you?
It wasn't a non sequitur, was it.Yeah doesn't matter, has nothing to do with this movie discussion.
History of Violence looks to be the best comparison but this looks a little tongue in cheek... ala "Falling Down" and "True Lies".Honestly, it feels an action version of the first two installments of the 'Scary Movie' franchise. I can see clear elements of The Dark Knight, The Equalizer (2014), and John Wick, as well as scenes that give of Straw Dogs, A History of Violence, Taxi Driver and The Usual Suspects. If I squint I can see a little bit of The Big Hit and Mr. and Mrs. Smith mixed in, too.
And the 'kitty cat bracelet' bit is far too close to "Put the bunny in the box." from Con-Air.
Its less a realism issue and more one of verisimilitude of the world. Falling Down is set in 1993, a pre-mobile phone, pre-Columbine and obviously pre-War on Terror time. As soon as he shot that gun off in the Whammyburger, that would have been the end of him. There’d be dozens of pictures of him, calls tracking his movements - the whole magilla. It's a movie, it doesn't have to be realistic it just has to be fun
I feel sad that I’m closer to ‘old guy’ than ‘young guy’ now.History of Violence looks to be the best comparison but this looks a little tongue in cheek... ala "Falling Down" and "True Lies".
I think it is bait for us old guys. Typically funny watching old guys beating up young guys. I'm old. I know what I used to bench vs how hard it is to get out of a recliner now. Total fantasy stuff. But can be fun to watch.
This was genuinely great
Forgot this too...
I like the beginning of John Wick 2 when the guy finds out they have Wick’s car and his reaction is “Why don’t we just give it back?”I just watched the (little watched) film "Polar" starring Mads Mikkelson, it's much of the same.
I just don't quite get why people smart enough to build up hugely successfully intelligence units / crime syndicates / mercentary outfits are so stupid as to not let the most badass of badass assassins retire peacefully. Or, once the assassin has been roused and has already slaughtered their way through a small battalion, back away politely and give them what they want if only they'll just go back home to their wife / dog / etc.
