As long as there's no diluting of the standards or bending of the rules (as there was with the first British female Commandos, they did the course in installments) and they don't end up becoming what we would call "the troop handbrake" and end up slowing everyone else down then why not...

Allow players to create or join settlements and then have to restock a dwindling food/water/ammo supply and investigate the source of the virus and you'd have a whole bunch of missions ready made.
I played a female in Planetside (as a stealther the smaller profile saved me numerous times). These days I usually come up with a name for a character first and then pick a gender based on the name, my priest in WOW for example was called Caduceus, so I made it female.
