well, at least, with the "scumbag protagonists", they literally kill the ludonarrative dissonance that plagued part 4 especially. You don't feel as out of character when you go on a killing spree and cause some havoc.

There's one thing I don't get: How do used games "take the cut"? That's just based on the false assumption that every used game sale would be a new game sale if it wasn't for used games. That's simply not true. Also, when buying used, the developers/publishers DID ALREADY GET THEIR CUT...

The games are actually sequels to the books, so the story is new. There are some recurring characters though, and you'll appreciate the lore of the game better if you read the books.

Well, I think the OP kind of misunderstood the placement of the checkpoints. They're not where they are to pad the game by senseless grinding, there there so you actually fear dying against a boss, because you have to replay a huge portion of the area. Sure, the end result is quite similar...
