Simple answer. Time Travel+Cryo Stasis= You can freaking go anywhere in space and time. You freeze yourself, travel back in time a very long ways, then use regular propulsion to get to wherever you want to be. You just have to go back exactly as much as it would take to reach where and whenever...

I'm of the Moviebob mindset on this. You can really start whenever you want. Just pick it up and start watching, and once you find something you don't totally get, go learn more about it. The really great thing about Doctor Who is that it works with this approach even better than most comics...
