Really this seems the only way they can really go without running the franchise into the ground. The question of whether or not they will is another matter.

Probably would have worked better as a pulpy mass up of 1980's horror movies rather than a "serious" horror movie. Throw in some humour, like the character slams a door in the baddie's face and you might have a game that atleast has a good idea going for it.
