    203: Games Dev 101

Heh, maybe it's changed since I looked into it. Maybe it hasn't. I know that a few years ago, most of the people doing Games Development courses were just assumed to be unusable in the industry. I guess if you've already got degrees in other things that it would be a good thing, but if it's all...

Science Says Gamers are Fat, Depressed Losers

I like how internet usage is a health risk now. Also, I tend to use the internet less than any of my non-game playing friends. I'm too busy playing games, you see. (That is assuming that here internet usage means your garden-variety browser-accessed internet, rather than ventrilo or game...

Best D-Day recreation in a game?

Medal Of Honour Frontline sure had better graphics, but I personally far preferred Medal of Honour Allied Assault's D-Day recreation. And the multiplayer maps in that game were the best I've ever seen in anything.

Thing is, video game courses never work. You cannot learn video game design. You can learn programming at a masters or PhD level, you can be good at coming up with new ideas, you can learn 2D and 3D graphics. You can't take a course in all of them and come out at the end as an employable individual.

Anti Virus computer programs. Whats good?

Well, I did a lot of research into this a while ago. Norton is one of the best options available, and the best for system performance. Norton AV tends to get a lot of negative press, but it seems fine to me. It ranked second in the Passmark Antivirus Performance Testing...

    Why Halo is called innovative?

Apologies for bringing up an old post, I just discovered the quotations personal message feature :P Key word in my post: "seamlessly". Like I said, most games tend to give vehicles a backseat. It sounds like Starsiege did as well. Part of my comment was that the controls hardly changed at...

Games that you liked that had been deemed mediocre or hated by official game reviews.

Well, I get that a lot of people said my choices were very popular at the time. It's true, but those are games I still play regularly now.

    Anyone still play this online...?

I think you underestimate how long it takes a game to die online. People will definitely be playing GoW1, and probably even Halo 1. People still play Medal of Honour Allied Assault and Freelancer, which were both released in 2002. Homeworld 2 is dead, but there are probably people still playing...

    Poll: Who do you blame?

It's the publishers. For most people, blaming the right person is hard because they don't know the terminology. Clarification: The game PRODUCER is the person at the head of the game DEVELOPMENT team. He is one person, usually the owner of the company. E.G. Chris Slack is the producer for...

    de-rez: Dave Hiroshima Investigates

Best video for a long time, I think. Also... Homeworld 2 was made by aliens? IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW.

Games that you liked that had been deemed mediocre or hated by official game reviews.

Flatout: Ultimate Carnage Medal of Honour: Allied Assault Freelancer Psychonauts Empire Earth Homeworld 2 I'm sure there are more, but those are the only ones I can think of. Also, in response to Mirror's Edge's story being complicated... WHAT?

    Why Halo is called innovative?

I realise that by now, this thread has become far too large for my comment to be read by pretty much anyone, but still, this is what made the first game innovative and the sequels equally supurb examples of the genre: Vehicles: Halo was the first game to seamlessly switch from free range...
