Listen to ska! It's got quality hooks, a lot of variety within the genre, and in all likleyhood your friends haven't even heard of it. It's similar to a quick rock/reggae mix. A few people know Reel Big Fish if you want to use them as a starting point, but I would reccomend any of Streetlight...
