It's not suprising that Kickstarter has now got big multi-nationals interested. The marketing potential is huge - and hey it's brilliant people pay to be surveyed (ok maybe overly cynical..).
I honestly though don't know if you can have one rule for one class of project thats allowed...
@DiamanteGeeza Bad project management is nothing new in the gaming industry sadly though. Same with dodgy Q&A practices.
And to be fair pc's have there problems with day 1 patches as well that seem to be coming part and parcel of a release nowadays.
Also digital distribution is an idea...
Nothing really holding the industry back to my mind. It's growing and fast - sales numbers are up. The number of platforms for gaming is growing just as fast (tablets, mobile app markets).
Even something like the ME3 furore or the recent success of Kick Starter projects show that the number...
Well when I wrote that I hadn't just read the announcement about the new Sim City and the online check bit. Now I'm still thinking that online checks will continue and will be a part of gaming for the foreseeable future sadly. My main gripe relates to the bit where I said:
"He sounds like...
10 years - More walled gardens and the return of the portal idea. Think the Apple model. Google will still be the biggest advertiser on the planet followed closely by Facebook or whatever replaces it as the new big thing.
But honestly I doubt much will change from now and then, HTML may...
This ^^
I hated the idea of regions in Sim City 4 - I just want to build a freakin' city not manage a nation or deal with other people the point of Sim City is to my maind a big fuck off to other people...
Captcha: Oh, Lord - exactly
I swear I've read that before...
"When writing about war in EVE - the extremely serious business of pixelated spaceships blowing each other up in hopes of controlling an imaginary galaxy"
Interesting first page reading, leads me to believe he's sincere and aware of the severity of his...
Really that' what you took from the interview?
It's a very US-centric view granted (especially about the crash, but then again Richard is from the US), but it's still informative and an eye opener as to the design process from someone who does have a big say in the future of gaming and how...
Still wish Michael Bay wasn't allowed to make films but that's not going to happen sadly.
Everything else I agree with. Creators have to be free to do their thing freely and also remain open to both accept and ignore criticism as they see fit. Anything else is a pseudo form of censorship.
Maybe but the whole crux of the issue is that he did say the players name, if he hadn't I agree a non-issue especially in a community like EVE's. But he did and to the outside world he's someone who has authority both from the players who voted for him and from CCP who created the position and...
Well it was stupid on the part of "the Mittani" to do this while he holds the chair of CSM. Seems he didn't think about public perception of that role would put his actions in a different spot light. Even if he wasn't in the CSM his actions would/should have been treated and investigated and...
No not really another crash on the cards, and even if there is I think that gaming is far more embedded into peoples lives than it was before meaning that the ability/market for companies to bounce back is in place.
The Studio system that the gaming industry seems to be moving towards...
Lots of nostalgia on display tainting everyone's opinions, really there have always been good games surronded by a sea of absolute drek.
Now my favourite "multi-player" gaming experience is still Pong.. No need for flashy graphics just good old fashioned physical violence to distract disarm...
@Jodah I defer to you like I say not played don't intend to, but if that's the case fair point
@worldruler8 new game to sell to the however millions that have bought a mass effect game and like the world?
