Japanese Students Save the World by Studying RPG Textbooks

No, that's not what I mean. I've had fun teachers. That's great and all... but I'm talking about RPG-like progression. Add that to a class and it's a recipe for success.

Japanese Students Save the World by Studying RPG Textbooks

I think it's safe to say I'd never leave school, ever, if they factored RPG elements into the curriculum of every class. Seriously. Why has nobody embraced this method of teaching kids? It'd do wonders to combat the gradually decreasing intelligence of people these days.

    It's Not You, BioShock 2, It's Me

I think the prevailing opinion (BioShock 2 has better gameplay than the first, but can never really match up because it lacks the emotional resonance and sense of wonder) is somewhat a case of rose-colored glasses. Yes, it was amazing to explore Rapture for the first time and meet its strange...

Uncharted 2 Creator Dropped Out of Film School To Make Games

I'm so tempted to buy a PS3 just for the two Uncharted games. Amy Hennig is my hero in the video games industry. <3

    Borderlands' Mad Moxxi Explains Herself

And I would argue that "Loose a match"---when provided with an appropriate concluding punctuation symbol---functions quite well on its own as a command (e.g., "Loose a match! Do it now!") This cannot be said for every collection of three words. Additionally, getting back to the initial issue...

    Borderlands' Mad Moxxi Explains Herself

If you're going to be picky, I think I'm allowed to be picky too. "Loose a match" (as in "I let loose a match" or "he loosed a match") is not contextually incorrect. It can refer to either freeing a match (from a matchbook, presumably) or releasing a match in some unspecified direction. You...

MMOGs Account for 15% of All Time Spent Playing Games

I'm assuming that's actually 4.950 euros... you know, the whole European comma-decimal switcheroo thing. If not, wow. I guess information is expensive.

    Alt+Escape: Icycle

I gave up on the third screen. Not the third level, but the third screen. I'm no good at these silly timing games.

Zero Punctuation: Beatles Rock Band and Guitar Hero 5

I'm still waiting for Guitar Hero: Power Metal Edition. We don't need any more radio-friendly "alternative" rock. What we need is a collection of epic songs that make you want to climb to the top of the highest peak of the tallest mountain, rip off your shirt and scream to the heavens in your...

    When Endings Go Bad

I do! And I seem to be the only person alive who wants to see all his heroes' efforts go to waste, every single time. I love watching everything go up in flames. Negative emotions are so much easier to exploit! I understand why game developers don't do it often, but I wish they would. The...

WoW: Cataclysm Part 1: Old Villains, New Races

Oh man. This is gonna be tough. Do I let my love for Deathwing pull me back to that infernal, time-eating MMO, or will the stupidity of actually making goblins a playable race keep me away? Sigh...

The Guild Music Video: "Do You Wanna Date My Avatar"

Anyone else notice that Maurissa Tancharoen (Joss Whedon's brother's wife) is one of Tinkerballa's backup dancers? Nobody's Asian in music videos!

If you could keep a video game character as a pet...

This one's a shoo-in. There's even a cinematic (which I'm sure a lot of you remember) during the Terran campaign, starring Lester (passenger) and Sarge (driver), in which Sarge hits a zergling with his truck and Lester thinks it's someone's dog. Awesome much?

What happened to Relic between DoW 1 and DoW 2?

I'm probably speaking for the minority here, but I see fewer strategy elements as a good thing. I've long since come to accept the fact that my mind is incapable of the multitasking and micromanagement required to be a "good" RTS player. The only true RTS I've played in the last year or so is...
