Don't build every building in every city just because you can. Make sure you actually need the bonus the building offers, and wouldn't be better off producing another building or a resource. Other than that, have fun!

I sometimes use them, and I used to use them a lot more. I fondly remember the days of Furious the Monkey Boy in AoE. I wish they were still there; it was fun knowing that they were in there, and that they could be used to drastically alter the nature of the game if desired.
