Complaints Lead to Changes in FX's The Strain Billboards

Actually, it is. 3rd world problems. At least google some human parasites before making such a silly statement. One such example... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loa_loa

    Jimquisition: The Adblock Episode

Well... The Escapist is the only website I know that has extremely loud autoplay ads that start after the video I'm watching starts, and if you press the pause/mute etc. button on them, they don't stop but take you to whatever crap they are trying to peddle. I've considered getting an...

About 25% of Americans Don't Know the Earth Revolves Around the Sun

Actually antibiotics affect microorganisms, not just bacteria. They also in their varying classes, attack protazoa, fungi etc. etc. As a further point, TB is tuberculosis. Septic shock is a description of a systemic response to infection leading to shock, not an infection itself. /pedantry

Random BS people say that you get fed up with.

Actually you are all pretty much just wrong on this. No you don't use all your brain at one time, but all of it is active in some way or another. The 'you only use 5% of your brain' thing is, partially, true, in that only around 5-10% of your brain (varies on age etc. etc.) is actually made...

    The Wishlist: Munitio SV Earphones

Except of course it's pointless to judge headphone by their published specifications. Of course these headphones are probably terrible, like all 'gamer' headsets and 'surround sound' headphones. As we are told they have boosted treble and bass, we can enjoy a sucked-out midrange and so lose...

    Alcoholism & sobriety

Umm well as someone nearing the end of their medical training... The way that people cope is that the way you feel on alcohol is the way people who aren't alcoholics feel all the time. Alcohol causes serious changes in cognition and chemical balance in your central nervous system (which...

    Jimquisition: Desensitized to Violence

I found that video pretty disturbing to watch. I don't know why but as a medical student I have no problems assisting on bloody open surgery but videos and images like the video shown here are still disturbing despite being much 'tamer' than many things I've seen IRL which pose no problems.

Poll: Your child is born without a brain. Would you raise it regardless?

Sadly no that is not the normal definition. Consciousness has nothing to do with life, are you seriously trying to say that all plants are in fact dead? How about individual cells? They don't have consciousness but they're alive. Furthermore barely any organisms are self sustaining. E.g. humans...

Poll: Your child is born without a brain. Would you raise it regardless?

Umm... Just no. The baby does have a brain - the brainstem. This is very primitive, and responsible for most of the things that keep you alive - e.g. breathing. It's just the rest is missing. True death = brainstem death.

Poll: Your child is born without a brain. Would you raise it regardless?

Alas all this talk of euthanasia but you forget doctors won't do that (not if they have morals anyway). The thing is to survive this baby would have needed pretty serious intervention to survive early on. The solution would be to not escalate care to let him pass away naturally... e.g. not...

    47,8% believe in 'psychic' (Norway)

Sadly the number of people with cancer/HIV etc. who stop their proper medications and then present with metastatic disease/very high viral load + spread to their partners etc. means that people like this are extremely harmful. Along with homeopaths/'natural' healers/herbalists etc. If only...

The misuse of words on the internet

I know this isn't exactly as per the thread but I've been seeing it a lot recently. A new phrase: 'Per Say' A corruption of per se by people who are not well read enough to have actually seen it in text or have any knowledge of latin!
