Nah its cos ppl spent most of the games life using overpowered automatic shotguns with explosive rounds that needed no skill to use. Run into an area shooting the ground and the slash dmg would clear the room. Since they left it rampant for so long everyone hates the sight of them.

Game play stays kinda boring till you get into more robot fights. The biggest thing is the story that pulls you in and makes your forget about the crappy game play.
