Mass Effect - What do you think your team-mates alignment is?

You're both kind of right, I think. Mordin seems to have the selfless motives of a Paragon, but on the other hand, he can be a cold executioner if he thinks it serves the greater good. I picture him as a utilitarian, "greatest good for the greatest number" type. On the topic of Thane, he...

    Poll: 0.999... = 1

How about this one: The difference between 0.9999.... and 1.0 is 0.0000... and since the difference between them is 0, the two numbers must be equal.

Activision: Social and Casual Games Don't Make Money

This comment makes me wonder about the other side of the equation. I'm pretty sure Kotick would be all for making money wherever he could, so if he doesn't think there's any money in casual games, I'm going to assume it's because it would cost Activision too much to make them. Sure, startup...

    Religion in Video Games

Seems to me that when anything religious appears in a game, it's just for imagery or mystique (Xenosaga took this pretty far). In cases like that the "religous" elements are pretty innocuous. On the other hand, it's also possible to engage religion seriously - Final Fantasy X, for instance...

Nintendo and Mistwalker Team-Up for The Last Story

Since he can't use "Final Fantasy" anymore, I'm guessing he grabbed a thesaurus and came up with "Last Story." Not that I blame him. In fact, snarkiness aside, I'll be interested to see what he comes up with.

    "Hardcore" gamer psychology

So I thought I would share this interesting article [http://www.pixelpoppers.com/2010/01/status-and-signals-why-hardcore-gamers.html] about the psychology of the hardcore gamer. The argument goes that the "hardcore" are threatened by "casual" games and gamers because of the (perceived) threat...

    Scribblenauts

Why the hell are these comments about Yahtzee instead of his article? Isn't there something more significant in the idea that a "nonlinear game" is actually an engine, not a game at all?

    Mathematicians needed

How did you come up with that first line? Point is, if you're going to take the reciprocal of a complex number (a + bi)/(c + di) Then you can't just invert the fraction, like you can for real numbers. You use the formula [(ac + bd) + (-ad + bc)i] / [c^2 + d^2] which gives you (i...

    Mathematicians needed

Yes. The point is that, raising a complex number to the power of -1 does more than just flip the fraction, so your first equality isn't correct.

i ^-1 = -i. Your first step would probably be fine for real numbers but not for imaginaries.

if you could live inside a game what would it be?

[Militaristic tyrannies notwithstanding,] Beyond Good & Evil, or better yet, Relentless. Those worlds seem meant to be not just played through but lived in. I can't put my finger on why.
