Won't be anytime soon, AFAIK; he's still trying to finagle the finances for the +$1,000 investment for the Pro and all the peripherals he wants, but once he's ready, I'll be ready. I haven't touched a PlayStation since the PS3, and as I stated in another thread, I was already entertaining the idea of getting a PS4 for some of the exclusives I've missed out on, but if I can get a PS5 for even less than what I was willing to pay to get a PS4, welp, that math maths just fine.

Now to the next question: Can I possibly recover my gamertag from my PS3 days? I don't really mind if I have to start over again; PS has never been my preferred identity/platform, but it would be nice to be able to pick up/add to where I left off and, most importantly, not have to pick a new name. I've been the only "Xprimentyl" on the internet for +20 years running!
AFAIK, it shouldn't be an issue for the gamertag. Mine carried over fine from the PS4.

Go to the PlayStation website and try to log in with your account 🤷

That's the thing, the only thing I remember about my account IS my gamertag. Not sure which email account I used, and you can forget about me remembering my password. Also, I recall several years ago getting some email from PlayStation saying I "urgently" had to update my account info, but since at that time, my PS3 had been boxed and shelved for a couple of years already, I just brushed it off. But since those emails did come to my current email  , I most likely created my PS account with it, so could be hopefully a rote recovery process if PS hasn't purged me for inactivity. Guess we'll find out when either my friends see "Xprimentyl is online" for the first time in a decade, or they see a friend request from "Xprimentyl2" or some other admission that the prodigal son has returned, and is knocking on the door in shame because his key doesn't work anymore.

Or I could start a whole new identity, an alter ego, perhaps! Maybe I can finally live out my life-long dream of being... a toxic gamer! Calling people the "N" word, spawn camping, screaming into my mic, recalling the various things I've done to other players' mothers in GRAPHIC detail, etc.! I wonder if "SkankHunt42" has already been taken as a gamertag...

I just booted up my console and did a user search and it found you, so your account is still on their servers.

Now it's just up to you to get back into it.

Sweet! Thanks for checking! Now, I just need to "kiss the ring" and pray getting back into Sony's good graces isn't a massive pain in the ass.

EDIT: Lol, 404 trophies? Hopefully that's just a coincidence, and not an indicator of the "Error 404" I'll get when I try to recover myself!

This is PS4-specific but can only presume the same policy extends to PS5 -

Ok, that raised enough concern that I went ahead and tried to sign in to my account just now, and I was indeed deactivated. BUT, it allowed me to recover it, at least my gamertag. I don't recall all what I should expect to see, but my gamertag is enough. When/if I get my buddy's PS5, I'll be "me" again.

I'd find it rather incredulous if they'd be able to reactivate your account with its username and not also be able to recover all other data related to the account, so I'd have high hopes if I were you.

You could sign in to Account Management ( https://www.playstation.com/acct/management ) and select Transaction History in the left-hand menu to see which previous transactions are still linked to your account. The list for me goes all the way back to 2007.

There is also this page ( https://library.playstation.com/recently-purchased ) but it only shows information on PS4 and PS5 purchases, nothing from the PS3 era.

And if you have a mobile phone then you could download the PlayStation application on it and log in and poke around in it, you should be able to see which trophies are linked to your account at least ( by clicking on your avatar / name in the top left corner ).

In any case, congratulations on logging back in to your old account.

Finally... TURN ON TWO-STEP VERIFICATION or some other form of security.
