I want Insomniac closed too. They should have made an X-Men game instead of overused Wolverine, and it shouldn't have been over the shoulder with Arkham combat and ugly costumes and realistic graphics.

I think it's closer to this.

As @CriticalGaming said, why not both?

But seriously, I wonder what she can do to save this mess?

To quote AVGN,

"..it's like trying to piss on a shot glass that's spinning on a record player that's strapped to a running cheetah's back while you're riding a unicycle on a tightrope blindfolded!".

Which might be easier to achieve than save Xbox

I had no idea things were this bad at MS....actually, it probably should have been expected.

If she somehow turns things around within the next few years, and make Xbox an actual competition again, she will gain my permanent respect.

Nothing against her exactly, but....

Dunno about that. But the game didn't sell well at all, and Microsoft Gamepass isn't paying back well for games so even if this game had a big audience playing for free on Gamepass that likely hurt them more than helped.

Frankly the game just looks like a copy of Kena Bridge of Spirits but worse because that animation style of 22 fps or whatever the fuck is horrible.
Aw, I really really liked that game.

But that is kinda the shame of it all. SoM is the kind of game that if it works on you, it really works. Same is true for the Hellblade games (which I wanted to like but did not, but I get why some do). Should be a way for those games to be part of a company that is successful.

The same issue falls on the Hellblade dev studio.

Hellblade is a very cool tech demo, as is the second game. But they aren't very good games and those kind of graphics require a shitload of money. And when your game comes out and isn't good or even worse....isn't successful to make any of that cash back, then you've basically invested in a Mo-cap studio and MS isn't going to waste that time or money to continue to let this studio make the same very beautiful but ultimately incredibly boring experiences.

It's sad when studios get axed, but if the studio isn't doing a good enough job then it isn't the publisher's responsibility to continue to pay for failing projects.

The Hi-Fi Rush shutdown was sad and genuinely a dick move because that was a great game that sold modestly and had a modest budget and should have been a safe bet to continue to support.

I really think Gamepass is the biggest thing fucking these games over because they don't generate subscriptions and they also aren't generating sales. So it's just games being released onto a mild sub-service at a loss. And i think we are seeing the business effects of that.

The blame still lies on microsoft for even bothering in the first place. If all they wanted was motion, capture technology. They could have kept ninja theory and just placed them elsewhere. Considering they didn't have to buy him for that much, they didn't lose that much money to begin with. So if microsoft didn't buy the ninja, three would have went out of business not too long, and would have only had the one Hellblade game.

It's sold more than modestly, and actually got people to buy a Series X.

While I did give game pass a chance at the start, it didn't take long for me to realize that nothing was being accomplished much by the time of 2022-23. Seraphim17, called it out years ago when he said it was just glorified DRM.

I think a lot of us were skeptical of it when it came out. and it was a great deal for a while there, but I feel like everyone knew that it wasn't going to stay that way and it certainly wasn't going to make MS happy in the long run.

I just keep thinking this as XBOX is putting on his clusterf*** business show:

When asked why Microsoft was creating XBox and getting into gaming, then-CEO said "because it's cool." There was this sense that Microsoft was playing with house money. Like Apple and Amazon now with TV and movies.
Now when Nadella is talking about how it needs to be a business that makes money, that makes sense, but it's also different. And there was no conscious change, it was just gradual as leadership shifted.

So, like- is XBOX supposed to actually make money?
*shrug*
