It wasn't until the release of Symphony of the Swarm that Vampire Fortress really achieved cult status.

Bah, kids these days are spoiled with their "new graphics" and "game balance". When you play a game, it should be an unrelenting slog that drains you physically and emotionally, turning you into a grim-faced automaton steadily pushing on towards the end so that the tens of hours you've already sunk into the game don't go to waste. There is no enjoyment, only a chiptune announcing victory before asking if you want to play again.

Ah yes, the trend of retro gamers to mistake the higher difficulty of classic games as some kind artistic choice by devs who took their audience seriously, rather than as a holdover of the days when the object of a game was to separate a child's pocket from as many quarters as possible. XD

Bit late in the game to say this, but I dig the new style.

We might see more and more video game characters following Erin home.

I hope Erin has a large living room!
I certainly hope we do, my favorite Critical Miss comics were the ones where she's got random game characters hanging around. :3

"But the first two Zelda games are the best in the series."

Sure they are, man, sure they are...

I feel that if the intention is to convince us that this comic will be different from Critical Miss, then this strip is doing a very bad job at it. It honestly feels like total filler for the actual story line, and the filler consists entirely of what you'd expect from a regular critical miss strip (including ye good old beating the dead horse).

Goddamned Bats [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/GoddamnedBats] are annoying, sure, but I always hated Demonic Spiders [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DemonicSpiders] more...

You're a weird dude, you know that? Or perhaps, you're a masochist.

So hold on, are all the video game characters that will appear in this series going to be made up just for the comic, rather than actual characters that were in actual video games?

Well, of course it's "overrated"... You forgot that you're suppose to "git gud" at the game before it becomes an instant classic in your eyes...

Casuals these days...

Ah, so that's how new game characters are introduced? They play a game and then they show up in the flat? I've got to admit, it's a bit weird to see "random enemy bat #9847" appear, though I guess it might develop into a character.

Okay, I'm going to declare that in the fifth panels there is - apart from the underwater bats - a Max army running around in the background. Now this game got truly scary.

Also, why is Erin so much messier, scratched-up etc. now? Is she affected by the health of her game avatar/player character?

That was the intention... [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3ALwKeSEYs] Also, just one hour? Your willpower is strong!

I like the contrast between some of the brown and pink pixels displayed in various parts of the comic...
..What?

It's an okay comic so far and I look forward to some depth or twists being introduced.
Or an in-game adventure of some kind even. Something..more. Sorry.

The aquatic bats were nice.

Today, you can't excuse lack of antagonist variety.

Nice ass, Erin!
