Also, is this arc making fun of a single storyline from a Final Fantasy game, or a lot of them put together? I'm a little afraid of just going straight to the JRPG pages of TVTropes.
As far as I can tell it's borrowing from a number of them, but I'd guess the "Shard Corporation" from EDA is a stand-in for Shinra Electric Power Company from Final Fantasy VII ("Shard" misuses crystals to make potions; Shinra misuses 'mako', analogous to life-force, to generate power). The job system they used was featured in pre-FF6 games (though later ones paid some kind of homage to it). Mega-powerful giant floating crystals are present in loads of the games; they have elemental attunements in Final Fantasy V, and probably some others I haven't played yet.

Burning orphans? What a waste, you could put them to good work in your lair!
Exactly. They fit easily into most complex machines, they eat less, they have no rights and nobody cares what happens to them.

The best part is, you can always make more quite easily :)
Don't forget that the younger the child, the easier it is to brain wash them!

Burning down an orphanage the oldest and most clich? evil dude thing to do, still funny to watch but where's the originality in these goons now a days.

Luckily for erin, she will be the most evasive! Because dancers are always the most evasive in the game. After all they got nothing else going for them.

As a fuel source, burning orphans yields a far cleaner, efficient energy to power doomsday devices. I was sad to see them go to waste here.
And where else will you find fodder for your hound pits?

I own a cattery for estranged felines, it provides ample fodder for now. Or should i say "for meow." Ahahah! *Scowls*
