Man, I was going to make this point, and XKCD, as usual, makes the point better. Why does this always happen?

Anyways, portion size is increasing and fatty food is cheaper. People hadn't adjusted, obesity goes up. In time, it will even out a bit.

just some perspective

Thank you for that, I knew certain European countries were doing worse than us, but people always talk about fat americans just because its a stereotype, its also regional, certain states are bigger than others.

Also I don't like talking about weight, it makes me think i'll have to regulate it some day.

50%? Looks like McDonalds isn't doing it's damn job. Unless the companies put chemicals in the food to make it addicting (yes most do that) there is really no one for them to blame but themselves. Then again, genes and body type play a factor in obesity as well.

I think that this is old news
If things get desperate they can always do what Japan is doing, a weight law.
Is that why 9 out of 10 high schoolers in Japan re hot as hell?

America, implement this NOW!

Sorry, only true about the high schoolers in the videos you look at ;)

[small]Actually you almost made me google 'Japenese high schoolers' on the school server. Whoops[/small]
Ar-are you saying... that Glorious Nippon Love School is a LIE?!?

I happily fall into the increasingly rare category that includes an athletic build. This is thanks to the a fantastically odd combination of terrible diet counteracted by a laziness that runs so deep I will miss three or four meals in a row just because I can't be bothered to cook accentuated with regular exercise and a sprinkling of good old fashioned disgust for the obese.

I guess us Americans are allergic to exercise? Meh.

I need to find myself a new country in a few years. This one's getting scary, and as much as I'll miss the Bill of Rights, it's starting to look more and more like toilet paper nowadays.

Here's the problem with food in modern times; for a massive population, there needs to be a cheap and effective food supply. That exists in North America in the form of frozen foods, boxed meals, and most food sold by major food chains that contain large quantities of sugar and salt.

Compounded on top of this, meaning there's more than poor quality food, is high cal faux foods, and fast foods (which isn't food to me). Comfort food items like cheap pasteries, chips, soda pops, etc. So there's poor quality food, then food that's plain ol' bad for you.

See cheap food robs you on energy. Bad food requires energy to work off. Cheap and bad food together cause people to become lazy, low energy, and in time, fat.

However, Organic items seem to be on the rise lately. With people going green, so too does the food industry. With organic items hemming out some peoples bad items and increasing the quality of dishes people eat, there'll be more energy for people to do things.

And then there's the internet, requiring that people sit all the time. So, who knows at this point. :)

I was raised in a family with a very dominant fast-metabolism gene, combined with a great deal of emphasis on getting plenty of excercise and staying healthy. I hate to see my country leaning towards obesity the way it is, but I will be staying on the fit side of the statistics, thank you very much.

I eat horribly and treat myself terribly and yet I'm underweight.
Under weight is bad too

In reality the idea that certain foods are naughty and make you gain weight is stupid

Only means I'll look sexier. Plus, that would make my world domination plot that much easier to carry out.

Well. about 2/3 of America is already overweight/Obese. So considering how many of those people are over weight. Think of what will happen in 10 years. A lot of people already knew this. I get my excersize though from typing (god, it's so hard!!!) skating (OH HELLS TO THA YEAH! IM EXTREME NEWBS!) and walking (a little bit.)

Apparently, if trends keep going this way, by 2020, about half of all Americans will be obese...I grew up in a family that was military, so my parents put a huge emphasis on excercise. But unsurprisingly, most Americans do not share this mentality and in about 10 more years, half of the US will look like stuffed sausages. What do you think?
I've been outdoors a few times in my life. Only 1 out of every 10 people I see is thin. Although I'm including muscular people with beer guts & the BMI thing qualifies body builders as obese.

Well, I'm "overweight" because I'm 5'10 and 240 lbs; it's not all body fat. I also have a job that requires me climb ladders, move quickly, lift and carry heavy objects, and I can quickly climb four flights of stairs without getting winded. I don't sit on my ass and play Modern Warfare 2 or WoW all day either.

If anyone in the government or media tries to accuse me of being a sedentary fat slob, I will kindly ask them to do a day of my job as well as I do, and then when they can't, I will tell them to kindly fuck off.

A lot of people like to say that America is a bunch of dumb, fat, lazy, complacent, morally corrupt aristocrats. I'm really damned tired of it.

What annoys me is that girls complain about models/celebrities always being "too skinny". And that "big is beautiful too". So since when is it beautiful to be 350 lbs and unhealthy as all hell?

While being 5'9 and 110 is unhealthy in itself, not being overweight should be the norm, and when overweight people go out to say, Chili's, and complain about the booths/chairs being too small, well, that sucks for you.

Put it in perspective, they put themselves in that situation. You never see naturally tall people complaining about doorways being too short.
