Days? How do they work? It's wednesday, so it's not 1 day till Skyrim, it's 2.

Anyway, I'll be playing swashbuckler-rogue-duelist Dunmer.

Is Gamestop having a midnight release party for this?

I am so there, if so. As for my build... not sure on race yet but it will be an arcane scout/archer build. Thinking Argonian or Nord.

I'm not great with timezones, but I'm pretty sure there isn't anywhere in the world that's two days ahead of me.

Nord with a beard. As of what his traits are, I have no idea. I just want the damn beard.
There isn't.

OP is inaccurate. Everyone knows that it's tomorrow in Australia and it's only the 9th here.

There are 24hrs worth of time zones. It's why we have a date line.

OT: I won't be playing Skyrim. I'll be waiting for Assassin's Creed. Studying for my final exam of the year.

Done that. Combat doesn't look too well, dragonfighting seems strange.
Fight at 1:35.
I admit, magic and archery look good. Finishing moves also look great. But just the hit, strange animation, block, strange animation, hit, strange animation, block? Meh...
Then the word you're looking for is dull. Not Oblivion with better Graphics.

Never played any of these games, so I don't know. something that cleaves through the enemies with a massive hunk of metal though.

... if I can set the metal on fire, all the better.
Then you want an Orc. Or a Nord. Prolly the Orc though.

I don't know, I never played the other Elder Scrolls. You people probably know stuff about this since you're in this thread. Is a magic-user with a one-handed sword feasible? And what does it matter if you're one of the several different guys who all just look like humans versus being a bipedal lizard?

Wood-Elf Sniper. So pretty much buffing Marksman and Sneak as much as possible. With some security and Athletics.

The GameStop that I shop at is going to start letting people in at 10:00 PM on Thursday night for Skyrim. I intend to be one of the firsts ones in. Plus, staying there for two hours will let me catch up on my reading. Still need to read Game of Thrones.

Different races have different bonuses. Bretons are made to be natural mages, Redguards are made to be natural warriors, etc.
Having a mage with a sword would decrease your spell effectiveness.
From the wiki:
The Spell Effectiveness figure on the Magic screen indicates the actual percentage of how effective your spells are. The magnitude of a spell will be multiplied by this figure when you cast the spell; if the spell has no magnitude, then the duration will be affected instead (see Tips, below, for more detail). So if your Spell Effectiveness is 85%, an Ease Burden spell will only allow you to carry 42 more points, instead of the full 50 points. Your Spell Effectiveness will be reduced if you wear armor. There are two types of armor: light armor and heavy armor. It doesn't matter which one you actually use as far as your skill is concerned. Your overall Spell Effectiveness while in armor, either light or heavy, cannot exceed 95% regardless of your skill in that armor. The skill rating for the armor you wear must be at least Journeyman rank to maintain 95%; lower ratings than Journeyman results in lower effectiveness. 100% Spell Effectiveness can only be achieved if you are not wearing any armor (which is why most NPC spellcasters wear robes and no armor). Fatigue levels do not affect overall Spell Effectiveness.

Wearing things like robes and wielding staffs increases your spell effectiveness.

My favourite playthrough type on Oblivion was a sneaky alchemist magic user with a bow. I'll probably go with that the first time round.

I wont be buying this game. As much as I want it, with the whole way their business operates I just cannot justify giving them more money. My problems stand thus, they have kept Interplay in court so long that they will probably be unable to make a decent MMO after agreeing to allow them to make it. Second, they sued notch for using the word "scrolls". Which is REALLLY fucking stupid since people only refer to the games by their different names (ie, Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim). If they continue to receive money they will only continue this bad behavior. Speak with your dollars people! Don't give these people and their blood sucking lawyers anymore excuses to hamper other game developers.

Orc warrior of some sort. I always start Elder Scrolls games as a warrior, since my mages tend to be somewhat evil and I want to do the main quest with a good guy. I've never played as an orc, so I also want to try something new.

Btw, I'm in China and it is only 4pm on the 9th. Even though I'm closer to the 11th than those of you in Europe and America, it won't be unlocked on steam until the proper time in America, so even when it really is only 1 day left here in China, I will still have to wait longer.

-1 days for me. Quite a few shops in Belgium and the Netherlands have been selling copies since yesterday, though this is moot if you have the PC version.
