Topic: What is your "That Book"?

Notes From the Midnight Driver by Jordan Sonnenblick. I don't know why, I just picked it up at a bookstore out of a huge pile and fell in love with it.
On August 8th, 2011, I dipped my foot into the Escapist community for the first time. A thousand posts later, and I've come to appreciate you guys for much more than I had thought then.

I came here like many others: with the advent of popularity for Yahtzee's reviews. I noticed the forums had some interesting topics, so I eventually joined the club.

Since then, I've made a few friends, had a few enemies (who were circling the Ban-drain anyway), but these forums were always a place where people could at least try to act civilized. People can complain about passive-aggressiveness and general high horses, but I've never seen somebody get rewarded for spouting "gay" as the answer to something they didn't like, which automatically puts this community at some sort of higher standard...

You guys just seem to be always there to be sarcastic where others will be ignorant, be sad when others save face, and act as friends to people you barely know. And in the end, no barrage of empty threads in the world can ruin that for me.

In this thread, let's talk about why we joined, and why we stayed, and all have a big hug-and-cry fest.

You're not just saying that because we got you the Community Spotlight are you? =P

OT: Unlike most people who came because of Zero Punctuation, I came for Yahtzee specifically. I read his last column on PC Gamer and they had a link here so... yeah.

Hey, apparently quite a few people didn't want me to have the Spotlight, make of that what you will :D

But no, I'm not just saying that, I really do love this place :D

Ok seriously dude? What the hell is your avatar? I've been trying to figure this out since I saw out and I've got nothing....

I found the site either through ZP or Shamus. I'm pretty sure it was Shamus, but who knows

I joined because I was looking for a nice forums dedicated to video games. At first I stayed for the videos, comics, and articles, keeping a fair distance away from the forums. Then at some point I decided to look about the forums when I was bored and I enjoyed the subjects of many threads. As time went on I started to love this site and even tried to post a few things...despite always being nervous about posting.

At this point I will probable never be a popular poster of any sort, but I do enjoy this sites community and most chance won't move off at any point in the near future.

It's too late, your lack of social life has already been shown with a look at your profile and basic math.

Like basically everyone I came here thanks to ZP, stayed due to ZP, LRR and, when I signed up for them, the forums. And later on, when more content was added such as Miracle Of Sound and The Jimquistion, it just gave me more reason to stay.

It's also a place where I can either talk about deep and compelling things (both about video games and in general) in one thread, and then in the next one, have everyone go pun crazy. Or in a delete me thread, picture crazy. And the mods, staff and (sometimes) content makers join in with discussions too.

I came here for Zero Punctuation and Unskippable, I lurked for months and months before I got over my shyness and stopped lurking! Now here I am, 1000 posts later. I love you guys!

*tearful hugs and loves for all*

I came here when Unforgotten realms came over, I lurked a bit before posting too. I've always fluctuated in my posting too, having a bunch of posts for a couple months then not posting a single thing for a long time.

Over a thousand posts later and... I honestly don't know why I still come back here, yet it always happens. Probably boredom
