Sorry mate, but there aren't 1001 good games out there.
Anyways, I'd like to recommend four games:
1. The Void, the only instance of high art in gaming today.
2. Zeno Clash, which plays almost exactly like a really good weekend-long LSD jag.
3. Sacrifice, sweeping the technical awards by way of being a RPG/RTS/Third-Person Action game with a brilliant multi-linear story arc.
4. Jim Power in Mutant Planet for the Atari ST, an old patience and precision platformer with the best musical score I've ever encountered in a video game.
