Mojang and Humble Bundle Team Up for Charity

The darlings of indie development and distribution have joined forces to create a brand new game for charity.

Don't take this the wrong way, but if it isn't indiscreet; what are you up to this weekend? I wouldn't normally ask, see, but this sounds like something you might like: this weekend, Minecraft developer Mojang will spend 60 hours creating a brand new game for charity. Humble Bundle will livestream the whole development process via its website [http://www.humblebundle.com/], and we gamers get to decide the game's genre and setting.

The circus begins at 10 a.m. CET (GMT+1; 4 a.m. EST) on Friday and will continue for the next 60 hours. Anyone who donates during production will, according to Mojang's blog [http://www.mojang.com/2012/02/15/humble-bundle-mojam/], receive a copy of the completed game as well as "maybe some other fun things too."

Additionally, Mojang has set up various "silly" incentives for reaching certain donation counts. It'll also be running a few staff Q&As and giveaways to make the experience of watching people code as scintillating as it can possibly be.

You can vote on your chosen genre and theme right here [http://www.mojang.com/2012/02/15/humble-bundle-mojam/]; the highest and lowest results from each will be combined to create the game. The possible combinations are frightening (I went for a Shoot 'Em Up Fantasy game, in the hope of helping create something like Skyrim 2033), and it's nice to see "Peter Molyneux" recognized as a genre at long last. What would you create in 60 hours if someone told you only that it had to involve Molyneux and "Candyland" as set themes? Ah, fun and charity.

I'm hoping for a Steampunk Egyptian RTS Driving game. Just cause that would be the most outrageously crazy game.

Personally, I was hoping for a dungeon crawler racing game with a candyland horror theme.
Sounds strangely endearing!

Let's just hope it doesn't become TOO popular, because then they will make a movie out of it, and Johnny Depp will play the lead role, and thus I must start resenting it.

Come on Peter Moleneux horror!
Isn't that every game he is remotely connected to?

So far it looks like RTS, Shooter, Steampunk, WWII...not exactly ground breaking.

Technically, all of those could be combined into the most badass, weird, slightly uncomfortable mash-up ever. I would pay tens of cents for a game like that! Tens!

Indie developers get exposure, charity gets money and the gaming community will be seen as generous, kind human beings.
This is definitely a good thing. :>

Damn I will never get my racing horror game now. Only 2 gallons of gas left, your car gets 17 Miles per gallon and all the signs are in KM.... Can you do the math, pick the right route, and drive away to safety before the monster gets you?

Vrrm Vrrm meets Shrieking brakes.

If you mean like Metro 2033, I don't think you know what a Shoot 'Em Up is. Think Galaga, but with more bullets, at least 10x more bullets and enemies, that's a Shoot 'Em Up.

I think something more like C.A.N.D.Y.L.A.N.D. Something dark, scary, where you are a lone wandering trying to survive the post-apocalyptic forces of delicious sweetness and hell. And where blow-outs are like an enormous pinata explosion with much destruction. And Twizlers are a hand-to-hand weapons. And M&Ms are ammo or food. Peanut M&Ms are armor piercing. The Zone is a sweet shop of death.

A dating sim shoot 'em up set in a post apocalyptic candy land. Now that's a game I'd pay money simply to see how it would look and play like.
