You know, as someone who admittedly snickered at "Hologram Girl," I can safely say: No, I, Zachary Amaranth, would not find the Han Solo song funny if done by Weird Al.

But then again, Weird Al didn't make his empire (lol i c wot us did thar) off the Saga Begins or anything similar, so...

I'm not even sure why this is considered indicative of anything. This isn't the first time there has been a humourous interlude in a Star Wars title and the others weren't decried. There, there's a lack of pattern. Game over, right?

I've yet to play the Star Wars kinect game though I watched the review on Gamespot which showed that apparent infamous scene and honestly... I luaghed my arse off. I'm sorry, I thought it was hilarious. Maybe I'm a cretin or a philostine but I thought it was a nice touch. Seeing Han Solo goofily dancing to a cover of Riding solo while at Bespin was stupid and funny.

This is coming from someone who is a massive Star Wars fan too, one of those guys who hates the prequels with a passion and hates the majority of what they did with the special editions.

I do think the culture of taking things too seriously has gotten a touch out of hand with all the hate this seems to be getting.

but then, there are the fans who will use anything 'negative' to grind the axe some more about perceived or actual wrong a company or person has done, and then blow it out of all proportion.

Around the time Return of the Jedi came out, Kenner released this:

I think once you've made "the second most defining dramatic moment of the entire saga" into a toy for 5-year-old boys, complaints about sacrilege are bound to fall upon deaf ears.

It could be that this week's article was fluff and, inconsequential...or it could be that my mind was blown when it came to my attention that the U.K. has fucking Hot-Dog pizza. I still can't even...I mean...I'm kind of ashamed of the U.S. for not thinking that one up first. Granted we could still win with a breakfast pizza made out of biscuits, eggs, bacon and, gravy...well, the southern half of the U.S. I guess.

The dance game is silly, but you can rampage through Mos Eisley as a Rancor, so all is forgiven in my book.

I admit it can't be defended in any rational sense, but it's perfectly alright for everyone else in the world to make fun of Star Wars, but not LucasArts. That said, they can even get away with the silliness of Lego Star Wars, but this Kinect thing bristles. There may be an uncanny valley effect at work.

I'm going to get the Star Wars Xbox 360 when I can (because it looks freaking awesome) and the dancing part is one of the things I am most looking forward to about this game. It looks like a lot of fun.

I thought it was hilarious.

I can see people getting pissy about the prequels, or changes made because that's direct canon done poorly and retcons - but this? It's not related to anything. It's stand-alone of the actual universe. Han Solo dancing in SW Kinect alters nothing about the actual character presented in the films.

I agree with Bob and most of the previous comments (except Hitchmeister, but he said it's illogical so arguing isn't going to do any good). I thought it was just a bit of silly fun that the developers had, and watching the video is really amusing. And LucasArts made the Lego Star Wars games, which were full of the same silly fun, so we can't say that we couldn't have seen this coming, or that it crosses some line into sacrilegious territory.

The word of the day, children, is: "Hypocrite" (No, I'm not referring to Bob)

EDIT: This is one of the reasons why I'm loathe to share anything I create with any sort of audience.

Actually, the Internet is highly abuzz with the Trayvon Martin murder. Actually, I just saw a picture on Facebook, depicting Trayvon as a baby black boy and George Zimmerman as a Predator, and saying "Guilty until proven innocent" underneath it. Personally, I feel that, regardless of WHAT the intentions were or how it went down, the fact remains that Zimmerman shot an unarmed teen, and SHOULD be punished for it, instead of being allowed to walk free!

As for the article itself, I'm reminded of how I tend to act about stuff I like, particularly with my recent life-consuming obsession, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. I talk a LOT on forums in regards to how the show is written, and what kind of messages are portrayed in the series, and whether or not some jokes actually work, though most of the time, I just accept that it's just how I personally feel about something, and don't really get "up in arms" unless it's something on principle or about broader pop culture double standards, like the Derpy Hooves incident.

Yeah, the stuff talked about on the Internet usually isn't NEARLY as important as most people make it out to be, and while nobody LIKES pointing it out, for fear of looking like a pretentious stick-in-the-mud, it's something we SHOULD realize, so that we can focus on the "more important" subjects.

I don't know, personally my issue wasn't that there was a dancing bit in a Star Wars Kinect game (I mean, that really does just make sense, it's what motion controls seem to be really good at). But why where it was? They could have done the same thing in a part of Star Wars where a dancing section would have made sense (like the dance in Jabba's Palace made sense). Spoofs are fine for ridiculous or overblown set-pieces or dialogue, of which there are many in Star Wars, but why spoof the sad dramatic climax of the whole series?

I don't think people hate it because it's not funny ot because it's "official" from Lucas arts.

I think people hate it because it's in a shitty game. Kinetic Star Wars is crap, and thus people will find the most minutae to ***** about it. And this IS pretty "bitchable" since it isn't THAT funny...

The title of this article caught my eye. I read it without looking at the author's name.

I have to say it was very well written and it calls to me. As I Gen X'er I relate with the dichotomy of holding nothing sacred while carving out some immunity to a few selections.

It wasn't until the end that I learned it was by MovieBob. Well done, Bob!

For shits and giggles? It was a joke. A bit of fun, I don't understand why it's being taken so seriously. Also, not to mention the fact that the scene has been spoofed plenty of times before... I don't see the problem here. Is the Star Wars fanbase really this uptight about the series?

I can understand where the hate comes from for the special editions, the bluray editions and the prequels as they messed with the canon, didn't make much sense and potentially got in the way of the enjoyment of the movie.

However this isn't the movie, it's a video game that has it's tongue tucked firmly in its cheek.

You forgot to mention those cute little stuffed Cthulhus.

All things with dramatic weight must be fickled, lest we appear to bear concern!!!
