Rockstar Reveals Extensive Max Payne 3 DLC Schedule

Rockstar is betting big on multiplayer Max Payne 3.

Max Payne 3 is just a couple weeks away, or a bit longer if you're of the PC persuasion, and that means it's time to start talking about DLC. Rockstar has some big plans for post-release multiplayer Max, starting with the Local Justice map pack, which is slated to come out in June. Local Justice will feature the "Police Precinct" map for Gang Wars, Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Payne Killer modes as well as two additional maps for Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Payne Killer, new avatar items, "multiplayer challenges" and more.

And it's just the first of seven - yes, seven - multiplayer updates planned for the game. Later this summer we'll get the Disorganized Crime map pack, the Deathmatch Made in Heaven mode pack [no idea what that is], the Hostage Negotiation map pack and the New York Minute co-op pack, followed by the Painful Memories map pack and the Trickle Down Economics map pack in the fall.

And if the idea of springing for all these map packs leaves you a little weak in the knees, the Rockstar Pass is now available for preorder through Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network, and also at Best Buy and GameStop stores in the U.S. The Rockstar Pass sells for $29.99 or 2400 Microsoft Points and grants access to all upcoming Max Payne 3 DLC, a discount of more than 35 percent off the individual DLC price.

As for single-player DLC, you can add that to the list of things you want, right behind a smoke, a whiskey, the sun to shine, to sleep, to forget, to change your past, to get your wife and baby girl back, and unlimited ammo and a license to kill.

Max Payne 3 [http://www.amazon.com/Max-Payne-3-Xbox-360/dp/B0022TNO7S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1335907053&sr=8-1] comes out on May 15 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and May 29 for the PC.

Nope. Got burned hard by the SR3 Season Pass. $30 for DLC that may or may not be good? Nah, I'm not making that same mistake again. Too bad Rockstar had to jump on this bandwagon.

So I could spend 30 bucks on DLC that may suck, for a game I may hate?

DLC is supposed to be stuff they think up after the game comes out. To get the complete game, I'm out close to 100 bucks!

Rockstar, it's as if you couldn't have made yourself more clear on why you brought this franchise back from the grave.

"The things that I want" by Max Payne. I love how these articles all end with a reference to the games. I'll have a sad if the third one turns out crap. Still looking forward to it.

I really don't like how they hype up the games with future DLC. It seems to me like Rockstar is just saying, "Can't wait to drop 60 bucks on Max Payne 3? Well don't worry cause there's $40 more game that we're going to try to sell you after that!" Also, I know this is silly now because it's an established business model and they're allowed to get away with it, but if they've got all this planned can't they just include it with the main game to begin with?

Good thing I pre-ordered on newegg for 50 on PC...but I have to wait longer. At least I saved some money. I'll have diablo 3 to tide me over in the meantime.

All this focus they're doing on the multiplayer is what makes me worried that the single player story isn't going to be able to match up to the first two games. At this point I'm thinking I'll probably just wait a while and then pick it up off Steam during one of their specials.

Was there any specific ( ie not the usual bs polish time ) reason for making the PC market wait 2 weeks after the console release ?
It may not be the usual kick in the balls like Prototype 2 ( 3 months wait ) but it is still a poke in the eyes for nothing.

... another game I will wait for a Steam special... or xmas holiday sale to get if the game is any good, I mean if I must wait a few weeks after release I may as well wait longer and get it dirt cheap instead.
In B4 Steam sales is killing the games industry...oh wait, too late.

Oh... and the DLC ? Max Payne is not CoD , it hasnt got a hoard of rabid fans ready to hoover up everything the publisher dishes out, odds are the MP part will be a flash fire in a pan affair... good for a few weeks after release and dead by the time the first DLC map is ready, and no one to play the DLC maps with.
( See Dead Space 2 MP ( initially fun but no staying power ) and AvP3 MP ( not many bothered with the DLC maps... the few that bought those couldnt play them often ).

Sooo.... I would have to pay £60 if I wanted to play the full multiplayer experience? No, just fuck that. 7 different map packs? Are you serious? That's just crazy, and it will fragment the multiplayer base far too much. It's not going to have the same amount of players as CoD, so they just won't get enough players to sustain 8 different levels of DLC (I.e from people with 0 DLC to those with all of it)

Not to mention, how do they split the players up? Are they going to have 8 individual lobbies? They can't integrate the maps into the main map rotation, can they?

Good job I wasn't interested in this game since I would have to cancel any pre-order I had for it after reading this.

Sooo, I am supposed to get pumped up by a company already having a schedule in place to try and gouge me out of money? Pass.

I understand the frustration, but I just don't get all the talk here and elsewhere about cancelling preorders for the game because of it. It's not like Rockstar is taking anything away from us, or that the DLC will somehow make the game shittier. It's extra stuff that you may not care about and may not be willing to pay for - I'm sure not - but the core game remains the same and everything about it up to this point has looked fantastic. So why give up on it?

You dont see an issue with a publisher chatting about a whole list of DLC it has already planned for a game not yet released ?
That adding maps via DLC will divide what I can only see at the moment being a rather niche multiplayer scene isnt an issue ?

... and slapping the PC fans ( the platform the IP started on, then again Rockstar dont really worry about fans... just the cash ) with a extra 2 week wait, with no reason given for the delay, isnt very nice either.

It also sort of sends the message that a lot of time was spent thinking and planning this schedule of DLC as well.

Who is this supposed to be attractive to, exactly?

Announcing DLC before the fucking thing's even released is just not cricket.

Perhaps people don't want to reward this kind of behaviour in any sense. Rockstar are certainly not the only ones to do it, but it being increasingly the norm doesn't make it any less shameless.

I'm with you, just don't buy the DLC, but for some people that's not enough, and I think that's fair enough.
