Far Cry 3 Gameplay Trailer Burns Down the House

The new Far Cry 3 gameplay trailer is hot - but nobody gets shot.

Have you ever been inside a burning building? I haven't. I once went into a house filled with smoke because my brother-in-law set the stove on fire and then called the fire department when he couldn't figure out how to unplug it, and after they showed up I realized I'd left my beer inside and ran back in to save it. But that's a whole different story. And even though I just nipped into kitchen for a second, and the house wasn't actually on fire, I wasn't anywhere near as casual about it as the cool cat in this new Far Cry 3 trailer, who charges into a raging inferno, climbs across beams and makes death-defying leaps on his way to saving a damsel in distress, and even manages to make a few wisecracks on the way.

The odd thing about this video is that even though it's more than three minutes long, nobody gets shot. Nobody even gets shot at. Some conveniently-placed water pipes get ventilated to clear the path to heroism, but that's it. Otherwise, it's just a twisting journey through a fortunately smoke-free environment. And while I would never begrudge the occasional set-piece in a game, that's not what I want to see from Far Cry 3. I want to see shooting. Lots and lots of shooting. Driving segments would be okay too - especially if guys get shot in the process.

Ubisoft's Far Cry 3 [http://www.amazon.com/Far-Cry-3-Playstation/dp/B0050SXX88/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1337632044&sr=8-1] is currently slated for launch on September 4 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

Ladies and Gentlemen, introducing the new least tense sequence in a video game ever award! Our winner this year... Far Cry 3!
Seriously that was dull.

Man remember that awesome game Farcry? Well, I feel like it was SERIOUSLY LACKING in the QTE/Scripted Game play department.

I'd definitely bet on this being an early game sequence, given how long the player has to figure out relatively simple things and the general lack of danger.

bland needlessly long walking sequences/cut scene, just let us play and have fun, otherwise its going to become the same as Crysis 2 was, quite good, but not really a game worth replaying as it was practically a mildly interactive movie :'(

I hate the way he consistently shouts inanities, despite the fact that he's also choking on smoke. I mean, is sarcastic humour necessary in a burning building?

Crysis 2 was much better than this tripe.

That was dull. Hey Ubisoft, advertise the whole Sandbox shooter stuff that is the staple of the series. You know, the thing that people are looking forward to in this game. Not this interactive B-movie nonsense.

"I can see the door! I'll smash through it!"

(Splinters the door with one punch)

This guy is taking things way too casually. With that kind of strength, I expect him to be smashing through walls and leaping around like the Hulk, grabbing the damsel in distress and flinging himself outside as the building explodes in glorious pyrotechnics!

My problem isn't the guy or tone of voices, it's the girl.

The building is burning to the ground, nobody is there trying to stop her from doing anything, and she just screams for help. She doesn't have to be Lara Croft, but still... after seeing how fragile the door was and how crappy that wooden chair looked my first thought as he saves the woman was, "Is it too much she just try to save herself like Black Widow, minus the kicking people in the face"? I swear if she trips and sprains her ankle while running away I will friendly fire her worthless ass.

This looks less like a level and more like the game's intro sequence. It's also crap.

Also, that girl's running animation cycle makes her look like an actual retard. Ohh deeaar.

Judging by how he holds that pistol at the ready he might want to do a dictionary check on "firefight". It's probably not quite what he thinks it is.

This doesn't look good at all, just generic and poorly paced. Was there even any way to fail that? I feel like the fire would just sit there for a few hours.

The videos i keep seeing for this make me think it's going to be another farcry 2. I don't know what it is it just doesn't look good to me and i loved the 1st far cry (the 360 version not the pc version).

The graphics make my eyes hurt also, i don't know what it is about them but they just look somewhat dated and horrible, or it might be the lighting putting me off. I don't know what it is about them but they just don't look right to me.
