Did anyone else get slightly reminded of the burning building in the inital Uncharted 3 trailers?

Yep, the first-person semi-interactive scripted sequence has now become the new unskippable cutscene. What was a major leap forward in the Half-Life days has now become boring and unimpressive. I think it's about time for a different kind of story presentation to evolve in video games.

There is a distinct lack of bullets, mutants and running down wildlife in a jeep in this trailer for my liking.

Gotta reserve judgment until the games comes out I suppose, as long as this is an early story building segment, the dude shuts the fuck up, and the game even remotely resembles the awesome first two Far Cry games, it'll still be enjoyable.

I'm just surprised no one mentioned it before you. The resemblance is more than a slight one.

With the carefree atmosphere in a tropical paradise setting Farcry is my favorite campaign FPS hands down. Far Cry 2 was a disappointment (to put it mildly), but 3 is once again set in a jungle, enough to sell it for me.

That would be good if you were gunning people down while actually running through the burning building instead of making it look like you were going for a casual stroll.

(Splinters the door with one punch)

This guy is taking things way too casually. With that kind of strength, I expect him to be smashing through walls and leaping around like the Hulk, grabbing the damsel in distress and flinging himself outside as the building explodes in glorious pyrotechnics!
If you look he breaks it with the machete he doesn't punch it.

Lisa. Lisaaaaaaaaa. Man I sure am I funny protagonist who talks to the audien-I mean myself a lot. Oh wait fire, yea cough. Cough cough. Did I win GOTY voice actor yet?

I kinda liked Farcry 2, if a bit repetitious, but holy jeez this game looks like trash. Its sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
generic. I don't normally use that many Os.

1. Why does he have his gun out? Takes away all immersion of the situation. And what idiot just shoots a fire extinguisher? Yea it might be hot, but if you shoot it the chance of it spraying its contents directly in your desired path is impossible.

2.Why doesn't he have ARMS WHEN HE CLIMBS THE LADDER. This isn't 2000. We have games that look better than real life, the least you could do is have the player not being a floating gun attached to a camera. Seriously, F all the games that do this.

3. The fire looked so static and scripted I was bored of looking at it. There was no tension. You could probably set the controller down and nothing would happen (the character might go "lisaaaa" every 10 seconds though).

4. I know its a heavily scripted event, but the lack of gameplay is abysmal. "Shoot a fire extinguisher! You can't do that in any game but this! Innovation!". This game looks like it took its queues from a ps3 launch title. And not the good ones. And I've seen other videos, the multiplayer looks identical to Call of Duty.

everyone comments on all the other stuff... what i want to know... in the end of the video, what was chasing them, you only see it for a moment, and it must be scary because i don't they were just running away from the burning building.

If you pause the video at around 3:22 / 3:23, they look like they might be enemies.
My guess is, what happens next is a "rail shooter" segment. Since you're on the back on a truck, with a gun, being chased.
OHHH THRILLING!

Im guessing they are monsters like in the other farcry game... or maybe running zombies, because both of them options suck, and that seems to be the direction they are going in.

bland needlessly long walking sequences/cut scene, just let us play and have fun, otherwise its going to become the same as Crysis 2 was, quite good, but not really a game worth replaying as it was practically a mildly interactive movie :'(
It's probably mostly interactive, how many cutscenes keep you in the classic FPS pose? It's just so because their demonstrating the game.

Absolutely, I couldn't help but think how much better this looked in Uncharted. Hopefully this is just the tutorial bit.

It's so scripted, linear and frustrating because the protagonist has a voice. God I hate these "Hollywood cinematic experience" FPS. Just let us play in a non-linear setting using non-linear methods. If I wanted a movie I'd watch a damn movie.

I love the last two games as well, but they weren't filled with scripted cinematic events. Everything they showed us about this game so far indicates that it's a heavily scripted experience.

Is it just me or did he try to push the car forward to start it?

What car needs you to PUSH THE CAR TO START?

That's what I want to know. When a car doesn't start, you look at the ENGINE, not push it.
You can actually, if a car wont start cause the battery is dead it's an alternative to jumpstarting it if you don't have the equipment to do so.

OT: I actually like heavily scripted "watch your character do this" sequences if they're done well, I certainly prefer them to cutscenes and nobody ever complained about them. That said, this one wasn't done so well.
