Dawnguard Finally Goes Multiplatform

Shortly after claiming no official timetable, Bethesda has released Dawnguard on PC.

PC and PS3 gamers looking forward to Dawnguard, Skyrim's first expansion, got some bad news late last week. Although Dawnguard had already been released shot down any hopes [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/114177-Skyrim-DLC-Coming-to-360-First] of a quick multiplatform release, saying that there was no announcement planned for the expansion's release on PC or PS3. But in a sudden turnabout, Bethesda has not only confirmed that Dawnguard is landing on the PS3 and PC, but that it's actually already available on the latter.

The surprise announcement came during QuakeCon 2012, less than a week after Hines' discouraging statement over Twitter. Bethesda didn't mention why Hines played down the possibility of Dawnguard's multiplatform release so close to the official announcement. Bethesda may have not nailed down the exact release dates at the time of Hines' tweet, or it may have just wanted to keep things under wraps to surprise QuakeCon attendees.

Either way, the news was good for PC gamers, who can get the DLC from Steam right now for $19.99, but bad for PS3 owners, who will have to wait longer. Bethesda notoriously laggy [http://www.bethblog.com/2012/08/02/dawnguard-ps3-update/] compared to the PC and Xbox 360 versions. Bethesda did not give an indication of when the expansion will make it to the PS3.

They should give it at a discount for PS3 owners for making us wait the longest.

I know they won't but it'd be cool to see it at $17 or $18 instead of $20.

Sure, take your time Bethesda, take your time.

By the time it does comes out I will be too busy playing Borderlands 2 to care.

I'm pretty sure advertisements for this have been floating around on Steam for weeks now. This isn't terribly surprising.

D-Did Bethesda just troll everyone?
That's exactly what I thought when I saw it pop on Steam last night! I was like, "Wait ... didn't they just say they had no plans for this on PC for now? Then how can they have it out less than a week later?!? Bethesda's been trolling us!"

That price is a bit high isn't it? What do I actually get other than vampire and werewolfness, since in that price range I almost expect full blown expansion.

well, they have it up on the steam website

- New Weapons, Armor, Spells and Shouts. Join the Dawnguard and wield all new crossbows and craft your own arrows, bolts, and Dragonbone weapons. Use new weapons, armor, spells and shouts, including the Soul Tear shout ? that rips the souls from your enemies and turns them into your minions.

- Become a Vampire Lord. Side with the vampires and become a Vampire Lord yourself. Hover across the ground, turn yourself into bats, levitate your enemies as you drain their life, and more. The Vampire Lord features its own upgradable perk system.

- Werewolf Perks added. Playing as a werewolf now has its own upgradable perk system including Bestial Strength, Animal Vigor, and Savage Feeding.

- New Locations and Creatures. Choose from two new fortresses to upgrade and call home, Castle Volkihar or Fort Dawnguard. Discover lost valleys and travel to a new realm of Oblivion, the Soul Cairn. Battle new creatures including Death Hounds, Gargoyles, Armored Trolls, and all new vampires and dragons.

- Change Your Appearance. Visit Riften?s Ratway and find the woman who can change your appearance, altering your face or hair.
a lot of mods can do this stuff already, but most of the content featured here is the storyline stuff

Sure, you American people can buy Dawnguard for that price. Me, I would have to pay US$24.99 for it because I live six thousand miles away. Why am I paying more for the same content (before exchange rates) because I live in New Zealand?

Something about regions, that's the reason they gave me when I asked about prices of certain items last year. That is my one gripe with Steam: the fact that they charge me higher prices for the exact same items.

Yes, it's about Region Distribution and Regional Pricing... the necessity of which can be argued for physical media but totally falls apart in the face of digital distribution except for companies involved in physical distribution have pulled every trick they can think of to keep digital pricing schemes welded to regional distro and pricing schemes so that digital versions have no price advantage over physical ones. (See: GAME UK Vs Steam and Bandai Namco Vs CDP/GoG)

Unfortunately, Valve haven't grown a pair and so still support this bullshit... which is why Publishers still use Steam.

So the short answer from Publishers and Distributors is "Fuck you, that's why."

Yeah as a fellow NZer I can't justify this price-tag. Skyrim alone was pushing it for me. We get lumped in with Australia, who to be fair actually have a higher purchasing power than the US, but we don't and we still get screwed. Australians like to complain about this thing a lot, but in NZ we have it much worse.

I also feel that bethesda dropped the ball with this 360 exclusive. Ignoring the fact that they're blatantly ignoring their original customers who tided them through until today (PC players), they are probably expecting some losses from people who have forgotten about this DLC from the wait against the people that microsoft gained by having it here. I know I would've been more interested (more bought into the hype) in buying this last month than now, when I'm avoiding it due to price and proximity to Guild Wars2 coming out.

Bethesda has to give Microsoft the 30 day exclusive since they used Microsoft tech in the creation kit.
Sucks yes, but I just look at it like Xboxers just get to be my beta testers.
HAHA!

Also I finished it.
Its worth 20 bucks.

Seriously.
Serana is one of the best written characters Bethesda has ever done.
The Soul Cairn, and the Vale are simply jaw dropping, massive, and beautiful.
Tons of new gear, a challenging boss fight, new shouts, new everything.

Its literally like they added a HUGE amount of new stuff to the game.
If you just started you could not tell it did not belong there.

To get it, I just saved a couple bucks every week and got it.

How long will 20 bucks of booze or smokes last you?

Tbh its going to be too late for me to get dawnguard for the ps3 especially at that kind of price. Ive just Platinum Trophied Skyrim and i tend to loose interest in replaying a game after that.

You're not alone, it's ?20,- for people in the EU. Which comes down to $24,6 dollars. It's a pretty outrageous price for DLC.

Bit too late there Bethesda.
I was hyped a week or so ago when exclusivity ending was the big news but that vanished incredibly quickly and now Im more pumped for Dark Souls than anything, so Ill probably just wait for that.
