Dishonored Displays Some Creative Killing

The new Dishonored trailer serves up a heaping helping of murder most awesome.

Sneaking around is all well and good, but sometimes you have to off a few dudes if you want to get your way. And for all the eavesdropping and peeping and general skulking about that makes Dishonored look so damn hot, it should come as no surprise to anyone that there's a whole lot of dude-offing in the cards, too.

Fortunately for Corvo, the royal bodyguard-turned-supernatural assassin, he knows a thing or two about such unpleasantness. He's good with a gun and better with a blade, but what we see in this video are a few of the special tricks he's got up his sleeve: summoning creatures, bending time, making great leaps across open spaces and even possessing people and animals, all of which ultimately leads to the same grisly outcome: death!

I have to admit that I'm not really sure what's going on in most of these kills. In the first one, Corvo conjures up a plague of rats and slows time, but then suddenly there's some whiz-bang stuff, he's rolling along the floor and then a couple dudes just sort of explode into goo. The slow-mo thing where he stops time, possesses dudes and then moves them in front of their own bullets is kind of cool but not exactly sporting, and those electronic gate things seem a little too easy to rewire for anyone's good.

Creative murder is always fun and it's never good to read too much into these things, but I can't help thinking that our gallant hero looks just a wee bit overpowered in this trailer. After all, one of the things that made Thief, a game Dishonored is often compared to, so great was that the lead character was so grossly underpowered and utterly screwed if he got dragged into any kind of serious trouble. A magical hitman needs to be able to mess people up, obviously, but it won't be much fun if he's able to turn everyone he sees into paste just by laying down an inverted fist-pump.

I assume you'll have a pretty limited amount of mana or what have you for a good chunk of the game. Elsewise you'ld run through through the whole map in slowmo and stab people.

He summoned the rats, placed a proximity type mine (spring razor) on one if their backs and then possessed that rat using it as his own home made suicide bomber as far as I saw.

Devs probably turned god mode on to make these. In one of the other trailers the player wasn't using this many abilities and was still burning through potions. Either way I still can't wait for this game, and even I can't find much to gripe about really.

Personally I hate games that if you get seen all you can say is:
"Well Im dead!"

This is probably late game stuff. When you reach god status. Kinda like in Fallout New Vegas where you hit level 50, with power armor and anti-material rifle. You can still be killed but it's gonna take more than a few dozen low level mooks.

I really don't think you're overpowered, at least any more than you are in any other game. Yes, you have all kinds of cool powers up your sleeve (or your hand in this case), but you cannot go using them all willy-nilly. You cannot use them all one after the other and all the time, you need mana (or whatever they call it in this game) to do any of them. You might figure out the best, most devious plan to kill your target but you still have to get out. Out of mana and all your powers are useless? Aww, should've thought of that.

The idea of this game is to avenge and you are given free hands to do so. Want to booby-trap a mouse? Go for it. Fancy possessing a gold fish to swim under the building? More power to you. Want to run into the building shouting and flailing your arms? Nobody is stopping you.

The game gives you the tools and it is up to you to decide how you want to use them. I don't know how the game handles health, but I doubt you're able to withstand a hail of bullets just from the get-go. I also don't know how easy it is to get your hands on any weapons. And how does your inventory menu function? In Skyrim, you're never in any real trouble as long as you have what you need in your inventory. In Demon's Souls, your inventory will not save you as opening it does not pause the game.

If potions of mana are scattered every two metres and opening your inventory does pause the game, then yes, you may well be overpowered. But I am still hyped for this game :D

The first couple friendly fire kills where he kills the dude with his own bullet are hilarious.

Anybody know how this happens?

I'm curious.
youtube stats take a day or two to update, same with showing up on the search engine.
Ok.

Wanted to make sure there is a logical explanation for the number of opinions exceeding 3 times the number of people that have watched the video.

It's funny, Dishonored is practically bending over backwards to get me to buy it, but I've already pre-ordered it. Also I read awhile back in a game informer article that while your powers are flashy, they eat up resources like nobody's business. You can run and gun if you like, but sneaking around conserves your resources.
