Clearly, the logical next steps are for Gunny to pause for a second, say 'hmmm...', pick up half of the bisected tank, and use it as a sword.

After all, as per anime logic - the bigger and more impractical the sword, the more powerful it is, and half a tank is definitely a lot bigger and a lot more practical than some wimpy sabre

I don't think he understands how physics works. Those bits of tank are still going to hit him.
In anime there ARE no physics, just cool factor ;)
As soon as you bisect something it automatically becomes impossible for the resulting halves to hurt you...

But that *would* be hilarious; cut the tank in half, then die from the impact anyway :D
I would greatly approve of that outcome. "Look at me I'm so cool, I'll just cut this tank in half and *splat*". Cool 0 - Physics 1.

Quick punch him while he's distracted, then take his sword and **** *** **** it!

And as said above, use half the tank as a giant club sword.

Seriously though: I do like how all this tank-hurling power comes from an "archer" that can't hit a target 5 feet in front of him. :3
Isn't it obvious?
Gunny leveled-up wrongly- instead of agility and perception he went for strength and constitution
And lets be fair, who needs to throw arrows on enemies if you can throw tanks?
Arrows don't do well against shields and some martial masters can even deflect them with bare hands.
Tanks lack these flaws.

Thus- tanks>arrows
Yeah you heard it right, I said it.
Come at me and do your worst!

Realy amazed no one as mentioned that the sword cut was so powerful it even cut the comic panel, that some 4th wall dimension slicing power.

You lads do know that cutting as you draw is not Japanese only right?

Indeed, however - according to the guy in the video you linked - sabres are traditionally drawn edge-up, meaning sword-draw attacks like what's seen in the comic aren't necessarily in its bag of tricks.

.......to be fair, he also specifies that traditional katana are usually drawn edge-up for the same reason: drawing edge down would cause the blade to rub against the lip of the scabbard and dull the edge. :p

Either way, in the end it's as Fappy said: "Oh, anime."

Gunny might be in trouble after all. Innitially I thought he was going to take the hit because he believed his armour was stronger than the sword only to find that he suddenly has archer stats and can't take two melee attacks
Come on, Cyancat. Swords are always more powerful than anything else in JRPGs (Except sometimes magic/summons). Plus, I think his sword is made of the crystals. <-<

Probably makes it even more dangerous.
true but many JRPGs and Anime series and Manga series have a case of "Goku-protagonist syndrome" in which a protagonist who is a complete idiot who wins against the evil genious simply by continuing to use brute force and nakama-generated plot armour. personally i'm rooting for Ghirahim junior purely on principle
Possible, but as others have mentioned, this may also be one of those, suppose to lose/run away fights.

I do understand what you're talk about though. Still, even Goku got his butt kicked from time to time. Yeah, he came back later to win, but I don't think this will be the end of Gunny. Even if he does lose.
i know that but since DBZ it seems like way too many anime have protagonists like that who win against smarter opponents all the time. that is what ruined Naruto for me. i started out as a series where you had to think in order to win and as such Sasuke Uchiha quickly became my favourite character for being complex and well written as well as actually being a pretty clever combatant. then they ruined it by making him the standard anime emo who smehow can't win over Naruto despite him being a complete idiot who barely knows any jutsu at all. the creator literally said that he didn't like smart characters and that is why they butchered the best character for the sake of the boring protagonist

Huh. Did not know about that. I see what you mean. Though, there are a fair amount of things where the protagonist(s) are smart too, (or can be smart in concern to some games that let you play that way), but I don't keep up with anime as much as others, so maybe there's been a flood of dummies recently. ;p

Goku isn't an idiot, though (unless you follow the abridged series), he's actually a pretty smart fighter. He's naive, but not an idiot. Same with Gunny.

In this case, Gunny is probably going to win simply because he already breaks the rules. I mean, throwing the tank? No-one should be able to do that, hence the look of surprise on whats-his-face's face.

Grab the cannon and swing it like a CLUB! Start chucking random crap in the air! Get behind Kujaroth while he's distracted and punch the bishounen looking bastard in the face!

Holy crap, if they were playing a Shadowrun Returns game, he would be a frigging Adept! Who needs a gun when you can throw tanks and shrug off most attacks? They guy clearly has Mystic Armor, and Killing Hands. Imagine this guy with Stride and Mana Fist, and this guy would be a frigging death machine! Also, Punch that Bishounen bastard in the face!

Guys guys, the real thing of beauty is Gunny's next move

Which I'm pretty sure is to do a leaping Superman punch AS the tank is flying. So when the two pieces separate and fly past the villain (because anime physics), Gunny will be leaping right down the middle and punch SepiCOCK in his stupid long haired face.

I always figured that the shockwave that cuts the object expands after the slash and that is what pushes the two halves apart. Who cares though? It's Anime/JRPG and it looks awesome.

Wouldn't it work just as well with any thin and curved blade? I know almost nothing of swords so I'm guessing I'm wrong but still.

I really want to see Gunny kick this guy's ass. I am so sick of the sephiroth super human thing. I don't care how, I don't care if it's anticlimactic, I just want to see this guy get wrecked as quickly and messily as possible.

Bonus points for that face when gunny threw the tank, though.

Dude I'm with you, let's put Sepexpyroth down dammit!
