So, there's a food challenge at a local pizza place here in town. The rules are simple:

2 people
1 hour
10 pounds of calzone
No vomiting

I'd doing it mostly for male bonding purposes with a friend of mine that I don't get to see much, but it is going to cost me $25 ($50 entry fee), so it'd be nice to actually win -- we get $300 to split if we can finish it. Also, I hate vomiting. So I thought I'd see if I could wrangle any advice out of the internet about eating contests, over eating, or not vomiting. Are there any eating competition champions out there that can share their secrets?

Also, captcha: steamboat hRiver. Huh.

Don't eat too much before hand. Don't starve either. Your best chance is to keep your metabolism high, and hope to hell that it can do it's job properly.

Drink lots of water to stretch your stomach.

If you make the mistake of not eating for a few days beforehand, thinking you will be hungrier on the day, your stomach will shrink and it's capacity will be reduced, so keep it large and cavernous with lots of water (and perhaps plenty of negative calorie food like celery, but I don't know enough about diet, metabolism or competitive eating to recommend that).

negative calorie food
Did you say negative calories?
Yes, food that apparently requires more energy to digest that it gives you.

However, I'm not a dietician, so I don't know how useful eating a negative calorie food would be for competitive eating... it may stretch your stomach and leave you hungry for calories, but perhaps the fibre and other nutritional components of the food may still fill you up, so maybe it's best ignoring that theory and stick to water.

Has anyone ever died from doing something like this? I admit I have a small stomach but I just don't see how people do stuff like this and don't end up with an obstruction.

Also, negative calorie food is really a misnomer.

That's pretty neat. Never heard of that.

I heard that drinking too much water can be dangerous. I read somewhere that eating lettuce can do pretty much the same thing, since it's mostly water. I think I'll try that.

I know for a fact that some people have. It's not terribly likely though. And I think you're right; it is a misnomer. It's just very, very inefficient food.
