Minecraft Sells 10 Million Copies, Teases Horses in Update

Minecraft is the runaway freight train that just keeps on going. Mojang's independently produced tree-punching simulator has now sold over 10 million copies of the PC and Mac version of the game. Obviously, this means that when you take into account the Xbox Live version, and the Android and iOS "Pocket Edition," that figure is even higher.
Head developer Jens Bergensten promised to reveal a subtle hint on the most major feature of the game's upcoming 1.6 patch once the game hit 10 million copies sold, and he has delivered on that promise. Minecraft got its start as a little indie title developed almost entirely by Mojang founder Markus "Notch" Persson. Over the last five years, it exploded in popularity, becoming one of the biggest indie success stories. 10 million copies is a huge number, and just goes to show that indie titles made by the little guy can easily go toe-to-toe with the big boys and their major publishers, provided that they have a good idea behind them. To put things into perspective, Call Of Duty: Black Ops II has sold 7.5 million copies.
A recent update [http://www.minecraftforum.net/news/782-tu9-update-for-mcx360-is-now-live/] for the Xbox 360 version of the game added "The End" zone and took some pretty big steps to bringing the console version in-line with the PC version.
Mojang also recently revealed Minecraft Realms [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/122692-Mojang-Reveals-Subscription-Based-Minecraft-Realms], a subscription based service that aims to provide "a safe and easy way for kids and families to play Minecraft online."
