For such a popular work I'm surpriesed it hasn't come out sooner, and Homoeroticism makes almost any book better. Or at least I assume that's why there's so much Harry Potter Slash Fiction.

It was 1890.

A woman showing a bit of naked ankle was considered unseemly.

How bad could it be?
In 1895, they put Wilde in prison [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oscar_wilde#Imprisonment] at hard labor for 2 years because it was proven in court that he was homosexual. That's how bad.

OH, you meant the book, not society. The book is just words, that get kinda homosexual in their eroticism. Just FYI.

I'll be getting this. Ive read the penguin classics version 5 times.

It's truely sad that Wildes novels were used to convict him of being homosexual. It ruined him.
It's sadder that being homosexual was such an offense in the past.

The homoeroticism was implied rather then explicit and I did like that when we studied Dorian Gray in class.

Even if it was Wilde's original vision, think I might find the complete version off putting and less enjoyable if it goes too heavy on the gory details, but can't judge until ive read :\

Considering their is most likely fanfiction for this novel that is several order or magnitude worse then what the author could ever dream of, this isn't an accomplishment.

Well color me interested, I'm gonna get this when it comes out. I loved Dorian Gray when I read it and now this gives me an excuse to read it again, and see what all the hub-bub is about.

Homoeroticism ay? Sounds good to me, but I wonder, will Amazon put the complete version up on the kindle store for free like they have with the edited version?

I thought it was called The Portrait of Dorian Grey or have I gotten confused?

The Picture of Dorian Grey and A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. The titles are easy to confuse. Believe me, my school's Academic Team's A-Team mixes them up all the time.

To all of the people who are saying "it came out in 1890, how bad could it be?", allow me to point you in the direction of Fanny Hill, which was published in 1748, and was the first modern erotic novel. While it technically came out prior to both the Victorian and Edwardian eras, it founded a literary genre that was quite popular throughout the period, if considered immoral, illegal, and kept hidden from polite society. <link=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erotic_literature#The_19th_century>This Wikipedia article should be eye opening. Edit: The article is not entirely safe for work. It's mostly dry text, but there's a few pictures single picture which I hadn't noticed before posting; what is the rule on linking to an encyclopedia article that contains what are technically adult images? They aren't
It isn't there for prurient reasons.

Edit: Forgot to do an on topic. I wasn't even aware that Dorian Gray had been censored until I read this article. I may have to pick up a copy, just to check it out.
